Tofanelli and Edson runoff in November

   Cliff Edson and Gary Tofanelli will face each other again in November, with Tofanelli three votes ahead in the count last night in the Calaveras District 1 primary.

   The runoff should be interesting. Who will Sharon Romano swing her supporters to?

Truck on fire at West Point Post Office

   June 7, 2016 at 8:10 PM:  A truck is reportedly on fire on Hwy 26 at the West Point Post Office.

  CHP and CalFire are responding to the scene. Use caution if in that area.

Collision in Columbia

   June 7, 2016 at 6:20 PM:  A traffic collision has been reported between a black Pathfinder and a maroon Ford sedan at Hwy 49 and Springfield Road in the Columbia area.

  No injuries have been indicated. CHP is at the scene. A tow truck has been dispatched.

Wood chip fire in La Grange

   June 7, 2016 at 5 PM:  CalFire is at the scene of a wood chip fire on La Grange Avenue in La Grange.

   Called the Park Incident, the fire was quickly contained and only one engine is currently at the site.

Coleman Fire near King City

   June 7, 2016 at 5 PM:  The Coleman Fire which is located in Los Padres National Forest near King City, is now 2340 acres and is only 15% contained.

   It is burning in high grass and chaparral.

Rollover at Carnegie OHV Park

   June 7, 2016 at 4:45 PM:  A vehicle has rolled over at the entrance to the Carnegie OHV Park on Corral Hollow Road in Tracy.

   CHP and other emergency personnel are responding to the scene.

Polls close at 8 PM -- We'll be watching the count in Calaveras!

  If you still haven't voted, you have time. The polls close at 8 PM in California.

   This is a very important election in Calaveras, to decide whether to continue down the path of devastation or to find new blood that will re-energize the county.

Watch for snakes

   The snakes are out and about everywhere in California.  In Galt, they've had a snake alert due to so many snake sightings, even in back yards.

   Most are just large gopher snakes, but they can scare people.  The rattlesnakes are around too, so watch your kids and pets when they go out.

City of Angels Camp control burning TOMORROW?

   We just received a press release from Nathan Pry, Angels Camp Fire Marshal, saying they are going to burn the City property near the Fairgrounds tomorrow, June 8, 2016.

   Smoke will be apparent all over town from 8 AM to at least 5 PM.  This is reportedly a training exercise.  Way too dangerous if you ask us. We sent a reply back asking if they were kidding.

Traffic collision in BLM land of Dardanelles

   June 7, 2016 at 2 PM: A traffic collision of some type has been reported about 7 miles off Hwy 108 in the Dardanelles, on BLM land.

   CHP is en route to the area.  The vehicle is now stuck on the dirt road which has not been named.

Car vs. tree in Pioneer

   June 7, 2016 at 12 N:  A car has reportedly hit a tree off Panther Creek Road near Hwy 88 in Pioneer.

   CHP and an ambulance are en route to the scene.

Fire in Avery

   UPDATE:  While the Fire Department may not be eager to tell us, the neighbors in the Avery area were.  Someone was reportedly burning illegally

Calaveras Chamber of Commerce charges for business mixers??

   We received a notice of a Calaveras mixer at a marina for this month, but it isn't free to visitors.

   You must pay $10 each for the privilege of visiting the mixer.  Is that possible??

Registered California voters in greatest number ever

   Nearly 18,000,000 people are registered to vote in the California primary today, June 7, 2016.

   How many of them will show up today, since Trump is already secured of the Republican nomination and Clinton was declared the winner yesterday in the Democrats race is unclear.

Castro Valley man arrested in Valley Springs

   On June 6, 2016 the California Highway Patrol arrested Casey James Moreland (36) of Castro Valley on Moore Court in Valley Springs.

   Moreland was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged two counts of Vehicle Theft, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, 1st degree Burglary, 2nd degree Burglary, being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Illegal to own Ammunition and Receiving known Stolen Property over $950 in value, all felonies and for DUI,
Possession, and Paraphernalia of Controlled Substance, misdemeanors.

      On the east coast, hedge fund manager Steve Cohen is remodeling his 62 million dollar mansion in the by literally tearing it down to bear bones.

    On the west coast, the Playboy mansion sold to the next door neighbor. This is the family that owns Hostess (Twinkies, etc).  No real estate problems with the billionaires in the US.
