Lynn Eloise Smith of Valley Springs

     Lynn Eloise Smith was born in 1930 in Placentia, California to Raymond and Olive Johnson.

   She worked over 25 years as a Unit Secretary for both Bay General Hospital in San Diego and Enloe Hospital in Chico.

Citizens catch and hold burglar in Murphys

  On July 22, 2016, according to a Sheriff's Press Release, Calaveras County deputies received a report of a burglary in progress on the 1800 block of French Gulch Road in Murphys.

Collision in Sonora

   July 25, 2016 at 3:15 PM:  A collision has been reported on Mono Way at Hwy 108 in Sonora.

   No injuries were indicated, but be cautious as CHP clears the roadway.

Major injuries at Lake Tulloch

      According to the Calaveras Sheriff, on July 24, 2016 at approximately 4:45 PM the Calaveras County Marine division responded to Lake Tulloch for a vessel accident with major injuries.

Drought and Bark Beetle damage in Calaveras

   A study done recently counted around 700,000 dead trees in Calaveras County due to the drought and then the bark beetle.

   If you have a dead tree you believe is on CCWD property, call 754-3543 to have an arborist come and authenticate it.

Overturned car on Mountain Ranch Road

  July 25, 2016 at 10:05 AM:  A car has reportedly overturned on Mountain Ranch Road at Gold Hunter Road in San Andreas, near the library.

   One person was trapped in the vehicle. A tow truck responded. Fortunately only minor injuries were indicate.

Traffic collision in Ione

  July 25,2016 at 8:10 AM:  CHP is en route to the scene of a reported traffic collision at Hwy 104 and Castle Oaks Drive in Ione.

   An ambulance is also responding to the location. Be extra cautious if headed that way.

E-mails, E-mails, E-mails!!!

   A truly cautionary message to all who use email regularly; from the Democratic National Committee!! Both parties' leaders had favorites and NOT favorites in this primary, and either one could get caught in an email scandal.

Heat wave to continue this week

   With temperatures over 100 degrees most of this week, take care to drink enough fluids and don't overdo the physical exercise.

   Heat exhaustion can be dangerous. Try to stay out of the sun as much as possible.

Verizon buying Yahoo

   It was reported this morning that Verizon Wireless is expanding its reach by purchasing Yahoo.

   They have agreed to pay $4.8 billion for the search engine.
