Watch for 'widow-makers' in the Stanislaus National Forest

   If you plan to camp or hike this holiday weekend, the USFS is reminding everyone to be aware that the bark beetle infestation has weakened some trees and a windy day could cause one to fall.

   Be careful not to pitch a tent near a dead tree or park your vehicle under one. Keep your eyes open so you don't get hurt by a 'widow-maker' in the forest.

Collision with big rig on Hwy 99

   September 1, 2016 at 3:50 PM:  A report of a big rig stopped on southbound Hwy 99 near Morada Way in the Lodi area led to a report of multiple vehicles colliding with the big rig.

   Emergency personnel are responding to the scene. Use extra caution if in the area.

Calaveras Democrats receive grant

   The Calaveras County Democratic Central Committee is excited to announce that it has received a grant of $8,554 from NextGen Climate, a non-profit organization founded by Tom Steyer, American hedge fund manager, philanthropist and environmentalist.

   The funds will be used to promote Countywide voter registration, in order to try and prevent climate disaster. Congratulations, Democrats!!

 

Vehicle Fire in Mountain Ranch

  UPDATE:  Per CHP the Jeep was fully engulfed when crews arrived. There was apparently a gas can in the back. They will allow it to cool and be towed later tonight.

Semi blocking Hwy 49 in Tuttletown

   September 1, 2016 at 12 Noon:  A semi truck and trailer is reportedly stuck on a curve on Hwy 49 near Tuttletown.

   CHP and a big rig tow have been notified. Avoid the area if possible until cleared.

Traffic collision in Camp Connell

   September 1, 2016 at 11 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Hwy 4 near Ottawa in the Camp Connell area.

   A Jeep hit a deer and then crashed into another vehicle.  An ambulance is responding to the scene. Use extra caution if in the area.

Willow Fire 100% contained

   The Willow Fire in San Andreas is now 100% contained, per CalFire.  It burned a total of 450 acres and one home.

   One person was arrested for alleged arson in this case due to a vehicle fire.
