Jackson City Council discusses TOT tax

   At the September 26, 2016 meeting of the Jackson City Council, enacting a Transit Occupancy Tax (TOT) will be discussed.

   The meeting begins at 7 PM at City Hall at 33 Broadway in Jackson.

Fire in Plymouth area

  September 23, 2016 at 3 PM:  CalFire is fighting a fire off Hwy 49 in the Plymouth area.  CHP is conducting one-way traffic control.

   While the high country got some rain, it is still very dry at the lower elevations.

Calaveras County Water District to discuss cannabis

   At a workshop on September 28, 2016 at 9 AM, the Calaveras County Water District will discuss the cannabis issue.

   Cannabis cultivation effects on water are the purpose, and regulations to protect the water for Calaveras residents is the issue. The meeting will be held in their boardroom
in San Andreas.

North Carolina is an "OPEN Carry" state?

   In the state of North Carolina, you are allowed to carry a firearm without any permits.

  However, if you are black and carry a firearm openly or otherwise, you may very well become 'DEAD'!!!

Took three days to repair lines after Rolleri Fire

   After the fire on Hwy 4 at the Rolleri Ranch near the Angels bypass, it took nearly three days for AT&T to replace and repair the damage done to poles

   On September 17, 2016 around 1:15 PM Angels Camp Police attempted to stop a vehicle with expired registration at Hwy 4 and Angels Oaks Road.

   The officer involved recognized the occupants from prior contacts and when the vehicle attempted to flee

National Public Lands Day--Tuolumne River needs your help

   On Saturday, September 24, 2016  the Groveland District of USFS is hosting a volunteer work day to repair and resurface a raft and kayak launch at the popular Merals Pool put-in on the Tuolumne Wild and Scenic River.

   Report at 7:30 AM for coffee at the Groveland Ranger Station 8 miles east of Groveland on Hwy 120, dress appropriately and bring swim gear, a towel and your own water bottle. Call 962-7825 for more  information.

Hwy 4 in Copperopolis still backed up from collision

   Traffic in the Copperopolis area on Hwy 4 is still backed up due partly to an earlier collision. The big rig tow is stuck in traffic.

  Hwy 4 is to be avoided lately due to Caltrans work being done anyway, and traffic blocked in both directions, so be careful if you must head that way.

Murphys water rate hike on UPUD agenda

   On Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 7 PM the Murphys water district (UPUD) will hold a public meeting to discuss possible rate hikes.

    The meeting will be held at the Native Sons Hall at 389 Main Street in Murphys. If passed, rate hike will begin on December 1, 2016.

Vacant homes can be fire hazard!!

   The exact cause of the fire at a vacant house on Mountain View Road in Angels Camp on September 21, 2016 has not yet been indicated by the Angels Fire Department, but we all need to be aware of and report any suspicious activity at a vacant property.

   Whether for purposes of shelter or drug use, fires can be started as in this case, causing the entire structure to be damaged.  Fortunately, fire personnel were able to stop the fire from more than minor damage to other homes or spreading into other areas.

Calaveras Sheriff clearing illegal cannabis grows!!

  Now that Calaveras County has made the cultivation of marijuana legal in Calaveras County, the Sheriff is able to clear out the illegal grows reported. The permit process works for all of us.

   Recently the Sheriff has found people held against their will to help with harvesting, and eradicated millions of dollars worth of illegal grows from our county.  Congratulations, Sheriff DiBasilio for helping to remove criminals from Calaveras!

Suspicious death in San Andreas

   According to the Calaveras Sheriff's Office on September 21, 2016 deputies were dispatched to an apartment at the Creekside Apartments in San Andreas for a welfare check on a tenant who had not been seen recently.

   A deceased person was located inside the apartment. An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death. Investigators found that a silver 2004 Chevy Tahoe registered to the tenant is unaccounted for at this time.

Traffic collision on Hwy 4

   September 23, 2016 at 8:30 AM:  CHP are still at the scene of a traffic collision on Hwy 4 near Horseshore Road in Copperopolis where one vehicle hit the rear of a water truck and then another vehicle hit them.

   An ambulance is en route and traffic will be delayed for some time per CHP. Be extra cautious if headed that way.
