Tree removal continues on Hwy 4

   All next week, December 19-22, 2016 there will be delays and one-way traffic control at various areas on Hwy 4 between Vallecito and Camp Connell.

   Be extra cautious as large equipment will be parked near the roadway for removal of dead trees. This work is Caltran removal near the highway. 

Traffic collision in Tuttletown

   UPDATE:  CHP reports that although this was a collision carelessly caused by a distracted driver, both were wearing seatbelts and injuries were minor.

Hit and run collision reported in Angels Camp

   December 16, 2016 at 2 PM:  CHP is at the scene of a reported hit and run collision on Dogtown Road near Schmauder Mine Road in the Angels Camp area.

   No injuries have been indicated. A tow truck is en route.

Clara Margaret Briski of Mountain Ranch

   Clara Margaret Briski, 81, passed away on December 13, 2016 surrounded by her family at her home in Mountain Ranch.

   She was born on April 7, 1935 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to Claude and Alma (Lewis) Hix and grew up in Mountain Ranch,

Traffic collision in Clements

   December 16, 2016 at 10:45 AM:  A traffic collision has been reported on Acampo Road in Clements.

   No injuries have been indicated and it is not currently blocking the roadway.

Ostrich on River Road in Ripon

   December 16, 2016 at 10:25 PM:   Believe it or not an ostrich has been reported running down River Road in Ripon.

   Be cautious as authorities try to round it up and return it to its owner.

Firearm arrest in San Andreas

   On December 15, 2016 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office arrested James Marion Nutt (36) of San Andreas on Pope Street.

   Nutt was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm,  Manufacture/ Import, Sale/Possession of metal Knuckles, and Prohibited to Own Ammunition, both felonies and for a Concealed Loaded Firearm, and Carrying a Switchblade Knife on his person, both misdemeanors.

Arrest for Elder Abuse in Copperopolis

   On December 15, 2016 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office arrested Gregory William Thaddeau Herrera at his residence in Copperopolis.

   Herrera was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Elder Dependent Adult Cruelty, a felony and for Obstructing or Resisting a Public Peace Officer, a misdemeanor.

Hwy 88 chains required at Peddlar Hill

   Caltrans has chains required at Peddlar's Hill on Hwy 88 in Amador County this morning.

   Don't head to the mountains without carrying chains. Drive extra carefully and dress warmly.

Chains required at Tamarack

   December 16, 2016 at 9:35 AM:  Caltrans has chains required on Hwy 4 at Tamarack this morning in Ebbetts Pass.

   While it is clearing in the lower elevations, it is still lightly raining and snowing up high. Drive carefully.

Dylann Roof guilty on all counts

   Yesterday a jury came back after only two hours of deliberation to find the young man, Dylann Roof, guilty on all 33 counts of murder.

   The penalty phase begins in January of 2017. He could receive the death penalty.
