Joel Springer: Calaveras High School teacher

   Joel Harold Springer, III was born December 11, 1948 in San Francisco He passed away on January 1, 2017 at his home in San Andreas.

    Joel had a Master's degree from San Francisco State University

Car runs off Hwy 4 and into canal

   January 6, 2017 at 11:35 AM:  A car that ran off Hwy 4 near Tracy Boulevard in Stockton is now in 6 ft of water.

  A bypasser pulled a man out of the car. One CHP is at the scene. An ambulance is en route.

Who will be elected CCWD District 4?

   On January 11, 2016 the Calaveras County Water District will allow the current 4 board members to elect their choice for filling the District 4 seat vacated by Dennis Mills.

   Applicants are Vickie Mills, Elaine St.John, Darrell Slocum, Scott Baker, Dennis Dooley and Don Kurtz.

Blake Shelton themed bars?

  Popular country music star Blake Shelton will have bars in Nashville and Oklahoma named after his song "Ol Red".

   Although he won't be the owner, his name is being used. The one in Oklahoma is in his home town of Tishomingo.

Stanislaus National Forest road closures

   Due to the coming storm, the Stanislaus National Forest is closing all roads that can be hazardous due to landslides or flooding.

   Drive carefully and carry chains if headed for the mountains.

Calaveras Sheriff's Office weather warning

   The Calaveras Sheriff's Office has issued another weather warning for the next three days. Please use common sense.

   For those who plan to go out into the snow country, take proper supplies and wear the heaviest weather clothing. Also the Search and Rescue is on standby for swift water rescue due to the rain runoff in our river.

Arnold man arrested by CHP

   On January 5, 2016 at approximately 10:50 PM CHP arrested Thomas James McNicholas (50) of Arnold on Manuel Drive in Arnold.

   McNicholas was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged DUI and Reckless Driving, along with four outstanding alleged warrants.

School bus collision near Summerville High School

   January 6, 2017 at 8:45 AM:  A school bus with students on board has been reported in a collision on Tuolumne Road near Summerville High School.

   CHP is en route to the location. It isn't known if there are any injuries.

Marriage Certificates in Calaveras County

   Between December 10, 2016 and January 3, 2017 the following couples received marriage certificates in Calaveras County:

      Rusty Sherry Ann Taylor and

Stop sign down in Copperopolis

   January 6, 2017 at 7:25 AM:  A white pickup apparently hit and knocked down a stop sign on School Street in Copperopolis.

   Two men are attempting to move it out of the way. CHP has been notified.

Mudslide on Murphys Grade Road

   January 6, 2017 at 7:20 AM:  A mud and rock slide has been reported on Murphys Grade Road near French Gulch Road, on the Angels Camp side.

    Avoid the area if possible until a crew can clear the roadway.

Mother Lode braces for another storm

   The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office has issued a warning to residents in the area of another and even stronger winter storm coming.

   Between January 7-10, 2017 high winds, heavy rain and snow in the high country is forecast.  Be careful and be prepared if driving.

Spinouts on Phoenix Lake Road

   January 6, 2017 at 7:15 AM:  Two spinouts have been reported on Phoenix Lake Road outside Sonora in the last few minutes.

   Black ice appears to be the problem. Drive slowly and carefully. Public works has been requested to put down sand.

Free sandbags in Angels Camp

   The Angels Camp Police Department has announced that free sandbags will be available to residents worried about flooding.

   Since we have received 2.5" of rain and are expecting more over the weekend, you may fill and take as many as you wish at the Angels Police Department.
