Burn permits required

   CalFire has just released information that they are now requiring burn permits in Calaveras County for homeowners. May 1, 2017 is the first day this is in effect.

   Go to your local CalFire station to apply and then call the 754-6600 number for daily air quality for burning allowances.

Calaveras COG meets May 3, 2017

   The regular monthly meeting of Calaveras Council of Governments (COG) will be held on May 3, 2017 at 5:30 PM in the Supervisors room in San Andreas.

   Various county Highway projects will be discussed, funded by Caltrans.

Fire reported near Don Pedro

   April 30, 2017 at 3:20 PM:  A fire has been reported on Marshes Flat Road in the Don Pedro area.

   Crews  are attempting to access the fire at this time.  No word as to what caused this fire, but most things are still green from the rains.  CHP is also at the scene.

Angels Camp PD arrests Glenn Johnson

   On April 28, 2017 at approximately 2:15 PM, an officer from Angels Camp PD arrested Glenn L. Johnson in the 600 block of Stanislaus Avenue on two outstanding arrest warrants.

   Johnson was transported and booked, per the press release, to the Calaveras County Jail on alleged charges related to committing criminal threats and attempted smuggling of contraband into a
correctional facility.

Giants at home today

   The SF Giants (9-16) are at home today in San Francisco where they will face the San Diego Padres.

Big rig crash in Lodi

   April 29, 2017 at 2 PM: A big rig is on its side in the ditch after colliding with a Toyota on Harney Lane at Tully Road in the Lodi area.

    An ambulance is responding due to major injuries reported by CHP.  Avoid the area if possible.

Proposition 1795 removed

   The Proposition to change the California State Constitution regarding statehood and nationhood has been removed from circulation.  California has the 6th largest economy in the world.

   Prop 1795 was a initiative to change the California Constitution that says that California is a permanent and inseparable part of the United States.  This was the one to make California its own country.

Two Calaveras deputies injured

   Two Calaveras Sheriff's deputies were injured after being called to a residence on La Contenta Drive in Valley Springs around 11:45 PM for a report of assault.

California State agencies release Cannabis regulations

Traffic colliion in San Andreas

   UPDATE:  A car hit a tree, which fell across the roadway.  It is being cleared now.

Stanislaus National Forest roads closed

   The District Office of the Stanislaus National Forest is announcing that due to heavy storm damage four popular roads in the forest will remain closed this season.

   Cottonwood Road (N104) in Groveland, Beardsley Day Use Road (N429), Hell's Hollow (5N95) and Spicer Road (N701) in Calaveras sustained extensive damage which will take time to repair.

   April 28, 2017 at 10:30 AM:  An injured deer has been reported on Hwy 4 near the Arnold Byway in Arnold.

Lodi man arrested in Murphys

   On April 27, 2017 the Calaveras Sheriff's department arrested Kevin Bradley Goff (48) of Lodi on Main Street in Murphys.

   Goff was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Burglary and Vehicle theft, both felonies and for Cruelty to Animals, a misdemeanor.

Copperopolis burglary arrest

   On April 27, 2017 Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested Joseph Jerry Lecompte (27) of Copperopolis on Sequoia Circle.

   Lecompte was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Burglary, Robbery, Vehicle Theft and Threatening a Crime with the Intent to Terrorize, all felonies.

City of Angels Camp will end water restrictions

   On May 2, 2017 the Angels Camp City Council will meet for a regular meeting at the Firehouse at 6 PM.  They have two Clossed Session litigations prior to the regular meeting.

    On the agenda is proposed ending of the water restrictions that were placed on residents during the drought.

FEMA car hits deer in San Andreas

   April 27, 2017 at 9:25 AM:  A rental car with a FEMA employee driving has reportedly struck a deer on Hwy 49 and Nielson Road in San Andreas.

   The deer is injured on the side of the road. CHP is en route to the scene.

   April 27, 2017 at 9:20 AM:  A white cow has been reported on Burson Road near Olive Orchard Road in the Burson area.

   Be extra cautious until CHP can locate the owner and remove it from the roadway.

Fatal Collision on Hwy 12

   Per CHP the name of the person who was fatally injured is Steven Sapp of Ripon.

CHP reports that on April 26, 2017 around 5:50 AM a driver (69) from Ripon  was driving a 1994 Ford Explorer on Hwy 12 east

   UPDATE:  Apparently a mother and two children have some neck and back pain, minor injuries indicated by CHP.

Supervisor Clapp wants to BAN farm animals in Calaveras!!

   At the Calaveras Supervisor meeting on April 25, 2017 the District 5 Supervisor Clapp asked for an agenda item to see about banning farm animals from residential areas.

   He says his voters don't like horses, chickens, goats, etc. in the Rancho Calaveras subdivision, which he represents.  They also don't like the animals to get out on the roadways.

Los Angeles Bans Wild Animals for Entertainment!

   In an unprecedented move the Los Angeles City Council voted to BAN any entertainment the uses wild animals. Ringling Bros. Circus is closing down partly because they can no longer use their bullhook trained elephants to entertain the public who likes seeing animals hurt.

   This is the first in what should be followed around the country, prohibiting the torture of any wild animals for human entertainment, which is sick anyway.

  

  

CCWD holds Special Meeting

   On Wednesday April 26, 2017 at 11 AM, after their regular Board Meeting, Calaveras County Water District will hold a Special Meeting.

   This will be a Closed Session to discuss Contract Negotiations with SEIU employees.

HorseSpeak Spring BBQ

   HorseSpeak is holding its annual spring BBQ on May 6, 2017 as an Open Ranch Day at CowgirlUP Ranch on Arapaho Drive in Burson.

CHP warns of motorcycles safety

   CHP is warning motorcycle drivers and drivers in other vehicles to be more alert to be safe during the Spring and Summer months, while more motorcycles are on the road.

   Look twice for motorcycles, as they are harder to see. And cyclists need to be careful to obey all laws, using turn signals and follow all safety rules.  Last year 476 motorcyclists were killed and 14,000 were injured while riding.

Angels Camp Police lobby now open

   The City of Angels Camp has announced that the lobby of the Police Department will re-open for regular hours.

   It will be open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM and is closed after 5 and on weekends and holidays.

      Joan Wilson of District 1 voter spoke up at the Calaveras Supervisors meeting on April 25, 2017, saying Supervisor Mills was deceitful and that he is corrupt. People are wanting to remove you from office, she told the board.

  She reminded him that he signed a form at the committee meeting and then publicly denied that he agreed.  Mills called the Chair 'confused' and may be recalled as a result.

   Challoner was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Prohibited to Own Ammunition, both felonies.

   At the last Angels Camp City Council meeting Mayor Scott Behiel asked the Chief of Police Todd Fordahl "We're not a Sanctuary City, are we?"

   We were surprised that the mayor would openly state the obvious of being against immigrants. We are aware of racist employees at the City.

Arrest at VS Chevron station

   On April 22, 2017 Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested Dale William Wichman III, (46) of Burson at the Valley Springs Chevron Station.

    Wichman was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited  Ammunition, both felonies and for Possession of a Switchblade knife in a vehicle, a misdemeanor, and was then released on bond.

Hwy 49 now reopened

   April 23, 2017 at 3:35 PM:  CHP has re-opened Hwy 49 near the Melones Bridge after a big rig became high-centered, blocking the roadway.

   No injuries were indicated, but the roadway was blocked for nearly an hour.

Happy Days star Erin Moran found dead

   Richie Cunninghams little sister Joanie, from the Happy Days cast was reportedly found dead in her home at the age of 56.
 
   Erin Moran was the love of Chachi in the show and in a spin-off 'Joanie loves Chachi'.  No details of her death have been indicated.

SF Giants in Colorado today

   The SF Giants play the Colorado Rockies today at noon in Colorado.

   The Giants are 6 and 12 for the season.

Car vs. pedestrian in San Andreas

   April 21, 2017 at 3 PM:  A car has reportedly struck a pedestrian on Mountain Ranch Road next to Mark Twain Hospital.

    Minor injuries were sustained in this incident. One person was transported to the Calaveras Sheriff's Office.

Calaveras Supervisors meet to pay for urgent repairs? Incompentence?

   On Tuesday April 25, 2017  the Calaveras Supervisors will hold a regular Board meeting to pay for urgent repairs to roads due to recent storms.

   If it's anything like the last meeting with total chaos and the Chair Oliveira unable to control or handle the job or the wack Supervisor Mills, it should be interesting.  How bad can this current board get??? Total incompetence??

Car vs. fence at Copperopolis School

   April 21, 2017 at 8:30 AM:  CHP is at the scene of a car crashing into a fence at the Copperopolis Elementary School in Copperopolis.

   It isn't clear if there were any injuries.

CCWD's pipeline replacement work

   The Ebbetts Pass pipeline replacement project will focus on the area of Manuel Road between Fir Street and Sequoia in Arnold for the next couple of weeks, weather permitting.

   There will be delays and detours, so drive carefully and watch for heavy equipment in that area.

Burglary in Mokelumne Hill

   On April 20, 2017 a burglary was reported that occurred on Center Street in Mokelumne Hill.

   The Calaveras Sheriff took a report. We have no other details available at this time.

   After several days of worry over where in the world was the USS Vinson, believe to be in the area of North Korea, it has been found in Australia.

   After the humiliation of losing such a large 'armada' of ships, Trump has now ordered the Vinson to head for North Korea.

Tennessee teacher caught in California

   The Tennessee teacher who is suspected of kidnapping his 15 year old student was caught, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

    The couple was located in California and 50 year old Tad Cummins is in custody. The teen is reportedly unharmed.

   April 20, 2017 at 11 AM:  A big rig has run off Hwy 4 near Jack Tone Road below Farmington and is blocking the roadway.

NBC News: O'Reilly is out at FOX

   After two decades and innumerable claims of sexual harassment allegations, with over $13 million paid apparently in hush money, Bill O'Reilly is out at FOX, per NBC News.

   Only after many advertisers pulled their ads from O'Reilly's show did Rupert Murdoch take action, putting O'Reilly on vacation last week.  It appears he will not return at all.

Murphys Mutt March

   On Saturday April 29, 2017 at 8:30 AM the first annual Murphys Mutt March will join the list of Community Club organized events.

   A bevy of canines and their doting owners will gather at Murphys Community Park and walk with their dogs on a leash to Kautz Ironstone Vineyards.

Tom Brady not visiting White House today

   The reason Tom Brady decided not to attend the ceremony at the White House today may have to do with the suicide of his former teammate, Aaron Hernandez.

   Brady did not give a reason, except to say that it was a personal family matter.

Disturbance after dog hit by vehicle in San Andreas

   On April 18, 2017 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office was called to the scene of a dog hit by a vehicle at Hwy 49 (St. Charles St.) and Mountain Ranch Road.

   A verbal altercation took place after a canine was hit by a car.  The Sheriff took no report on the incident.

Stolen Firearm on Gun Club Road

   On April 18, 2017 a firearm was reported stolen on Gun Club Road in Angels Camp. 

   No other details are known at this time, but the Calaveras Sheriff took a report.

  

Vehicle Theft Arrest in Valley Springs

   On April 17, 2017 Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested Johnathon Eugene Sullivan (33) of San Andreas on Hwy 12 in Valley Springs.

   Sullivan was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Vehicle Theft, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Fake Birth Certificate, all felonies and Driving with a suspended license, DUI, Controlled Substance Paraphernalia, misdemeanors and for an outstanding Warrant.

NFL player Aaron Hernandez suicide

   Former New England Patriots football star Aaron Hernandez was found dead in his prison cell in Massachusetts this morning.

USFS announces delay in some roads opening

   The USFS has announced that many of the forest roads in the Stanislaus National Forest will not be open for possibly a few weeks.

   This, of course, is due to the heavy storms which have left deep snow in the back country and their need to check these roads for damage before opening them. They advise you check with your local USFS office for details.

   As a result of the totally screwed up violation of the Brown Act ordered by Supervisor Oliveira, sending Supervisor Mills to try and secretly write a cannabis BAN behind the scenes, there will be a Special Meeting for Calaveras Supervisors.

   After being told that his poll numbers were even worse that two days earlier, Trump decided to bomb an airport in Syria.

    He had been told that nothing improves your polling like a war!!!  Of course, he notified Russia that he was going to do it first!!  Then Russia told Syria!! Oh, brother!!

Hit and run in San Andreas

   April 7, 2017 at 8:30 AM:  A white car reportedly hit another vehicle and left the scene on Hwy 49 near Hwy 12 in San Andreas.

   CHP has been notified that the vehicle headed towards Jackson on Hwy 49.

      Don Rickles, legendary comedian, has passed away. He was 90 years old.

Nunes steps aside from Russia/Trump investigation

   Amid an investigation of  Rep. Devin Nunes himself being duped into carrying documents from the White House to the White House in order to try and help Trump, Nunes is stepping down from the Chair as part of the Russia/Trump investigation.

    The investigation itself, which each day, it seems, brings new suspicions and allegations of Trumps behavior regarding Russia, will continue in the House, the Senate and the FBI.

Traffic collision on Hwy 4

  April 6, 2017 at 7:20 AM:  A traffic collision was reported on Hwy 4 at Milton Road below Copperopolis.

   A length of fence was taken out. It isn't clear if there are any injuries. A tow truck is responding to the scene.

Work resuming on Ebbetts Pass pipeline

   With good weather, the resumption of regular work on the new pipeline serving Arnold and Ebbetts Pass will resume.

   Watch for workers in various areas around Hwy 4 in the Arnold area.

Big rig on fire

   April 5, 2017 at 4:30 PM:  The engine of a big rig is reportedly on fire on Poole Station Road near Riata Way between Angels Camp and San Andreas.

    Avoid the area if possible.

Dodge Ram vs Fire Hydrant

   April 5, 2017 at 1:25 PM:  A white Dodge Ram overturned after crashing into a fire hydrant on South Fork Road at Wildcat Ridge Road in the Twain Harte area.

   An ambulance and CHP are en route to the scene. Avoid the area if possible.
   

Calaveras Democrats meet

   Calaveras County Democrats will hold their regular monthly meeting on April 11, 2017 at 6:30 PM at the Main Library in San Andreas, in the Chesebrough Room.

   The speaker will be Martha Gamez, CDP Regional Director will be the main speaker. The public is
