May 19, 2017 at 6 PM: One person has apparently died in a vehicle collision with a tree at Ospital Road and Southworth Road in Burson.
Three CHP are currently at the scene. The coroner has been notified. There is one other person who was in the vehicle. An ambulance is en route.

Arrest for Vehicle Theft
On May 18, 2017 Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested Kevin Wesley Smith (51) of Valley Springs at his residence on Toyon Circle.
Smith was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Vehicle Theft and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, both felonies and for a warrant for Violation of Probation, a misdemeanor, and was released on bond.
