Woman arrested in Wilseyville

   On July 30, 2019 Calaveras Sheriff deputies arrested Jennelle Cherylynn Bartholemew (29) of Antelope on Blagen Road in Wilseyville.

   Bartholemew was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Possession of Forged Notes, Forgery Ficticious Check, Getting Credit with others ID and Violation of Probation, all felonies.

Shooting at Gilroy Garlic Festival

   It's not yet clear the exact numbers but apparently at least 3 people were killed and 11 wounded at the Gilroy Garlic Festival yesterday afternoon.

   Although a security system was in place, the shooter seems to have cut through a fence in the back of the park in order to kill victims. The reason is not known, but the police killed the shooter.

Whiskey Fire at Hogan Dam

  On July 18, 2019 the Whiskey Fire at Hogan Dam burned 27 acres before being brought under 100% control by Calfire.

   It was near the Whiskey Creek Day Use Area.  The cause is still under investigation.

New stop signs at dangerous intersection

   After many crashes, some fatal, Caltrans has decided to install stop signs on Hwy 49 at Hwy 26 in Mokelumne Hill.

   A longer term plan is yet to be decided, but for the short term,  Caltrans feels it will prevent more deaths at that intersection.

Discolored water in Copperopolis

  CCWD states that the discolored water occurring in the Copperopolis area is a naturally accumulation of minerals and not a health risk.

   A pump that lost power earlier in the week reportedly caused the discoloration. They are working to clear up the problem.

Deputies coerce inmates into having sex?

   We've all heard the rumors about deputies and even a past Sheriff using their position in law enforcement to coerce female inmates into having sex with them, among many other corruptions in Calaveras County.

   Most of this goes on without investigations or protection of the women involved. However, a Sutter County deputy has been fired over this practice. One down, many to go!

Calfire on Arson arrest in Forest Meadows

  On July 23, 2019 Katrina Kelly (26) was arrested for alleged Arson of an Inhabited Structure on Sandalwood Drive in Forest Meadows.

   Time sentenced may be increased if convicted because California is in a declared State of Emergency due to fire danger, according to CalFire.

   Several fire units responded to a call for a house fire on Eel River Drive in the Mono Vista area of Tuolumne County.

   A malfunctioning heater apparently caused the fire which was extinguished quickly.

Several small fires have been contained

  Several small fires believed to have been lightning caused in Calaveras County, have now been contained.

   One in Copperopolis, one on Swiss Ranch Road and one in Forest Meadows were all  caught early and crews were able to get them contained without much trouble.

Angels Camp Police nab shoplifter

   On July 20, 2019 Angels Camp Police arrested Shaun Nicholas Johnson (31) of Angels Camp in front of the Sierra Gas Station.

   Johnson was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Shoplifting and Receiving Stolen Property under $950 in value, misdemeanors and for Violation of Parole, a felony.
