Nearly 40 million now unemployed

   As of the report yesterday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of unemployed in the U.S. is the highest ever recorded.

   Another 2.4 million people applied for unemployment benefits, making the new total for 8 weeks nearly 40 million.
