William T. Maguire

November 8, 1920 - May 11, 2012

William T. Maguire died on Friday, May 11, 2012 in San Andreas at the age of 91. He was born in Scotland on November 8, 1920 and moved to the United States at the age of 3.

As a young man, he had the kind of adventures that make up young boys' fantasies. After granduation from high school, he decided to travel the United States by "riding the rails" from New Jersey to California and back.

Prior to United States entry into WWII, he traveled to Canada, worked his way over to England on a freighter, and joined a Scottish regiment, the Cameron Highlanders. For six years he fought in India and Burma. After returning from the war, he joined the U.S. Army and became a criminal investigator, serving in Vietnam and Korea, and became a legend in military circles.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mina. He is survived by his three children; Patricia Panto (Joseph) of Angels Camp, William Maguire (Nancy of Gallitzin, Pennsylvania and Carol Donzanti (Frank) of Laguna NIguel, his grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A private memorial will be planned at a later date.

Stacy Lynn Apley

November 20, 1963 - May 12, 2012

Stacy Lynn Apley died at home Saturday Morning, May 12. Her valiant struggle against cancer is completed. She was 48 years old.

Stacy was born in Portola November 20, 1963. She spent her childhood in the small town of Greenville within an active well-known family, granduating from Chico State University with majors in Psychology and Child Development.

For more than 20 years she has worked with families and young children. Most recently she was employed by Stanislaus County Office of Education.

In 1997 Kent Apley and Stacy were married in an outdoor ceremoney in Murphys. Kent and Stacy have been blessed with 3 children, Logan age 11, Kinlye age 9, and Caden age 6.

They later moved to Murphys and enjoyed being close to family. their family has been active in local sports teams, Christian Family Learning Center and cancer awareness activities.

After Caden's birth, Stacy was diagnosed with breast cancer. That initiated a tenacious, constant, painful fight to survive. He goal was to raise her children.

She received several awards and recognitions in the field of early childhood education. She earned the respect and admiration of her co-workers and the families she served as an energetic, creative, and compassionate educator, and will be remembered as a thoughtful and loving woman of courage, strength, and confidence.

Stacy is survived by her husband Kent and their 3 children, parents John and Janice Holland of Greenville, brothers Daryl Holland of Chico and Chris (Kirsten) Holland of Portola. She also leaves a very dedicated mother-in-law Jean Apley and her family Grant (Val) Apley, Collden (Joe) Hancock, Carla (Larry) Smith, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by Lezlie Halland, sister-in-law, and Carl Apley father-in-law.

Margaret Ann Jones

Margaret Ann Jones, of San Andreas, passed away on May 7 at Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital. she was 79.

    A native of Stockton, she had lived in San Andreas for 50 years and was a homemaker.
   She is survivied by her children Don Jones, Ray Jones, James Jones and Debra Dougherty; brother Robert Blakely, 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
    Visitation will be held on Friday May 11 from 9 Am to 11 Am at San Andreas Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Friday May 11 at 11 AM at San Andreas Memorial Chapel.

Michael Rogers

 October 5, 1991-April 26th 2012

  Michael Ray Rogers, of Angels Camp, passed away on April 26 in an auto accident. He was 20.

   A native of San Andreas, he was raised in Hibbings, Minnesota for 6 years, and resided in Angels Camp for 14 years. He was a student at Columbia College.

   Michael loved music, believed in the peaceful side protest like those in Oakland. He worked at Big Five in Sonora while attending college.

   He is survived by his mother and stepfather Mark & Tabbatha Hix of Angels Camp, his father Ernest Jay Rogers of Sutter Creek, his first and only love Rea Lawson of sonora, and siblings Andrew Sivas III of Angels Camp, Reece Rogers of Duluth, Minnesota, Chance Fidler of Angels Camp, Ashley Hix of Stockton, Journy Fidler of Angels Camp, Jessica Satello of Fallen Nevada, Melissa Hix of Angels Camp and Elizabeth Liulanaga of San Francisco.

Marjorie A. Griffith

March 8, 1927-May 1, 2012  

Margie was born in Oakland, CA to James and Margaret Jones. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles H. (Charlie) Griffith on January 13, 1946. After raising three children, Margie obtained her bachelor's degree in nursing and was a Nurse Educator at St. Joseph's Hospital, Stockton, for 18 years. Margie and Charlie retired to Arnold and 20 years later "escaped the snow" to Murphys to a home built by their son, John.

Margie researched the genealogies of her and Charlie's families, publishing books on each and learning to speak Welsh as a result. Margie loved music. She attended music camps, competed in Wales as part of an award winning Welsh-language choir, formed and directed a hand bell choir, and enjoyed playing piano and harp. Margie was a devoted member of the P.E.O. sisterhood. She volunteered as a youth group leader at First Congregational Church in Stockton and continued her church association with Sierra Bible Church (Sonora) and Chapel In the Pines (Arnold).

Margie is survived by her husband Charlie (Murphys); daughter M. Sue Griffith, RN (Angels Camp); son Michael and his wife, Sunnie Griffith (Sacramento); son John and his wife Betsy Griffith, RN (Hathaway Pines); grandchildren Glenn Verkerk and his wife Rebecca, Kiersten Schjei, Steven Griffith, and Amanda Langford; five great grandchildren; six nieces and nephews; sisters-in -law Susan Fryman and Peggy Dahl; and brothers-in-law Owen Griffith, Thomas Griffith, and Roy Loewenfels. She was preceded in death by her younger brother, John Morris Jones.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hospice of Amador and Calaveras, Country Haven, Mark Twain Hospital, and Foothill Village, all of whom helped ease Margie's transition.
We also wish to express heartfelt appreciation to Margie's caregiver, CC Costa.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, May 15th, 11AM at Indian Rock Vineyard, 1154 Pennsylvania Gulch Road, Murphys, CA 95247.
