Who Made Murphys What it is Today?

At a recent Board of Supervisor meeting, Tom Tryon, with 28-years in office, was allowed to campaign from the Board chambers by Chair Gary Tofanelli, who is also running for re-election.

Tryons statement indicated that the reason Murphys is now such a successful tourist destination, is because he was such a good Supervisor.  Many beg to differ with Mr. Tryon. In fact, the Sentinel remembers that the beginning of Murphys turnaround from a tiny town with struggling businesses, into a mega tourist desalination was when John Kautz began developing Ironstone Vineyards.
He also bought the Murphys Hotel, and had a vision of what could happen in the little town. Not everyone one, especially the older locals, liked  the idea, and in fact, still don't, but the rest is history.
In fact, when Murphys was in his District, he and Callaway, both extremists voted against the new sign for the Murphys Hotel. Whether the residents are  happy or not is still debated, but Murphys is a busy little wine-tasting town on the weekends.
If Mr. Tryon had anything to do with this, it is probably that he ignored almost everything that was going on everywhere else, except where his land was concerned. He recently made a good deal of money for his family when he sold land to CalTrans for the Angels Bypass.
Does Mr. Tryon own any land anywhere around the new Hwy 4 Wagon Trail project between Copper and Angels Camp?  Ask him if he has any conflicts of interest or could possible have any of the family trust in the path?   Murphys could be in trouble, as the town now has Supervisor Callaway in charge, her CONTROLLING, and MICRO-MANAGING already.

  1. Love you dearly......But there are plenty of bigger news stories on candidates out there then this. The bottom line is that Tryon was the supervisor before Murphys was, what we all see today. If Murphys had failed you surely would have blamed him. But it has thrived and he should get credit for at least some of that. Rather then imply someone owns property, why not check the county records, deetermine who the owner is and make a definitive statement. Then you are reporting what "IS" not what "MIGHT BE". As always, I enjoy the site!!!!
