Things were all set in Sacramento, programs printed, new names on the office doors, etc. The only problem was....that Asembly District 36 in L.A. had a few more votes to count.
That morning, Ron Smith, R had the lead. By afternoon, however, Steve Fox, D had come from behind to get the nod for yet another Assembly District to go Democratic.
Staff had to correct and reprint programs, get a temporary sign to put over the top of the Smith sign on Fox's new office, and other little items, to avoid total embarrassment.
Such is the life in California politics--one hour you're in---the next hour you're out!
