July 5, 2013: The mother of Trayvon Martin, Sybrina Fulton, is testifying for the State.
She has worked for the County for 24 years, has a graduate degree in English.
She stated that he had two tattoos, one for his grandmothers and one for her. She is now being asked about his voice and if she ever heard him crying.
This is so emothional, it must be unbelievable for her to listen to the repeated cries on the tape. The screaming stops immediately at the time of the gunshot.
The defense tried to start cross-examination by apologizing for her loss. The State objected and the judge sustained the objection.
Another objection about asking her if she was present and heard a discussion between the Mayor and the City Manager. She said no.
This lady is amazing. She is answering the questions as to who exactly was in the room when she first heard the tape.
No police were in the room at the time, she thinks. No one told her they had listened to the tape before.
It was the worst thing that she went through listening to that tape, and she said, yes it was. He tried to get her to say it may not have been her son screaming.
Another objection as to speculation, sustained by the judge. Zimmerman sits there totally unmoved, unemotional at the defense table.
Then the defense tried to get her to say she pressured the others in the room to agree with her. She said no, no one said anything and she didn't even know what the tape was about, and she was not prepared. She stated "NO!"
She only listened to the tape one time. Then redirect by the State asked if she was hoping he was still alive at that time.
She was asked if she enjoyed listening to the tape and she said "Absolutely not!" Then the defense asked if she hoped that he had not done anything to cause his own death.
She stated that "She had no idea was he was asking her." She was an excellent witness, in spite of the terrible emotions of the event, she hung in there and I believe the jury couldn't help but believe her.
