DUI accident damages Valley Springs power pole

June 2, 2013:   According to a report by CHP, Laura Lopez Tafoya (24)  of Riverbank, was driving her 2007 VW Jetta on Hwy 26 near Nicholls in Valley Springs at an unknown speed around 3:25 PM.

Due to her extreme intoxication, per CHP, she made an unsafe turning movement and left the paved portion of the roadway.

Her vehicle struck a PG&E power pole and than overturned onto a fence at an adjacent residence.

Per the report,  she asked a witness at the scene to please not call the police, and refused medical treatment from first responders.

The investigating CHP officer found her to be under the influence of alcool, and arrested her for alleged DUI.

She was then transported to Mark Twain Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and released for booking at the Calaveras County Jail.

The damage to the power pole resulted in traffic being shut down in both directions on Hwy 26 for at least one hour.
