OP-ED.....How does the Gun Lobby get its way....?

I was heartened to see so many thousands of people all over the country this past
weekend publicly protesting against the violence we have seen in this country and advocating passage of President Obama's proposed new gun laws.

I am aware and have read that the Sierra Sentinel has seen first hand how the gun manufacturers lobby (NRA) gets what they want (more guns sold, more billions of dollars in their pockets).

We wondered what would happen if we requested the Calaveras County Sheriff a copy of the CCW (Concealed Weapons ) permits in Calaveras County.

We are certain that many CCW permit holders are good, solid citizens and businesspeople who find it necessary to protect themselves.  However:

Despite the fact that this is PUBLIC INFORMATION, that every member of the public has a right to see this list, you were bombarded, right?

Threats, intimidation, bullying, cowardice anonymous threats and other forms of typical behavior of the gun rights NUTS in this country you have written about.

You've seen them on TV. "Lock and Load" "Obama's coming to your door and I, for one am ready to shoot anyone ," crazy and unbelievable threats against our military,  and even "hell, it's only a few kids", and death threats, especially to women.

Yes, and there is one outspoken "loco" person in Ebbetts Pass, is known to have threatened women, but has not yet been arrested by the Sheriff.

The main one, a little short dude, is such a coward, no one can stand, and I don't believe he even possesses a CCW permit. Why does our law enforcement authorities protect this creep, and not the women who have been threatened by him?

Only 5% of the population even has hunting permits now. This is because more people have respect and love the wild animals of America.

Things are changing, and its about time we had law enforcement on the side of women, children and the anti-violent segment of the country.

Sierra Sentinel, you are 100% right on with this. Why aren't other papers printing the truth?

That same little short lowlife threatened me, too. The Sheriff even says he's crazy. Why doesn't he do anything about him?

these gun nuts think the 1st amendment should be done away with and that they have more rights than the rest of us non-violent citizens

Do I remember correctly that Tryon, Callaway, Wilensky, Tofanelli and Spellman all were against protecting animals from hound-hunting? Oh, yes, and the local Humane club was silent. They are all for torturing animals and are probably against any gun control too.

There’s more than a touch of hypocrisy in the recent exploitation of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy by the MSM, Obama, and the Democrats. All the wanton murders due to Fast and Furious (estimated at 300 or more) do not appear equal to one life lost at Sandy Hook. The administration paid criminals to illegally arm drug cartels in Mexico, choosing to supply them with none other than “assault weapons”, mostly AK-47′s with some Barrett .50 caliber BMG rifles and a few hand grenades thrown in for good measure.

The result was the deaths of federal agents Brian Terry and Jaime Zapata, along with another thirteen American citizens and several hundred Mexicans. Another disgusting milepost for 2012 is the 500th homicide in Chicago, Obama’s and Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s hometown. This sad statistic was achieved when Nathaniel Jackson was shot and died at the scene on December 27th at 9:00 P.M. as he stood on a street corner.

The MSM has largely been silent about these tragedies, choosing instead to concentrate on the victims at Newtown. In the process, they overlook at least 440 child gunshot victims with 60 fatalities in Chicago this past year alone.

This brings us to Senator Feinstein’s attempt to revive the National Firearms Act (NFA) of 1934 with her recently drafted gun control legislation. She has introduce this revamped legislation to the Senate in an effort to resolve our supposed epidemic of violence as revealed by Obama in his Sandy Hook speech to the nation. In effect, what this darling of the left has done is reintroduce all of the weapons that were not subject to registration initially.

Why is it that people of like mind coming together in a common cause is normally accepted as the "American Way" unless the media disagrees and labels all those Americans as a "Powerful Lobby?"

Gun manufacturers money, you dufous, it is a lobby of gun manufacturers. They only care about you to get you to buy more guns!!!

Actually, Mr. Anon, it is the threat of looming gun controls that are contributing to the increasing sales of firearms.

For example see http://www.boston.com/business/news/2013/01/29/gun-makers-sellers-new-england-overwhelmed-with-orders-for-firearms-ammunition-before-new-restrictions/MxRlEI6MxLFmATTzPMuOiL/story.html

I do believe you can thank our current President for this phenomenom!

What about the rest of us who get murdered and robbed and nobody cares, especially ccw carriers. is it a plague you have?

Anonymous said...

Yeah, the 2nd amendment is all that matters, right. get rid of that nasty 1st amendment.
GUNS ARE GOD!!!

to the anon who wrote about the fed agents. GET A CLUE!! That was BUSH's idea. I know why you really hate the President so much. you aren't fooling anyone!

Shame on you Sierra Sentinel. I just heard what you did and I think it's a cowardly acthas the potential to encourage robberies were the intent is to get guns to use criminally and shows how low the anti gunners are willing to go. I have yet to find a single anti gunner who can argue their side from a factual basis. Typical feel good liberal BS trading freedom for the potential of safety that never delivers on the promise.

Evidence here indicates that most people prefer to remain "anonymous" and would rather not have their names, let alone addresses, made public.

Something for the editor of the Sentinel to consider, I would think.

Dear Leroy: Unlike contractors, who's information is public, just like yours, and who get robbed as a rusult at their job locations all the time.
But of course, Leroy, you are much more important, right?
Typical gun advocate. Buy more guns, keep them secret til you're ready to get your neighbor?

You do know, I hope, that the black helicopters have been replaced with white drones?

Beware, be always aware...

Lets publish the names of the "I don't own a gun crowd because its unsafe" so the criminals know where the easiest prey live. What do you think?

Anonymous said...

What are you people so afraid of. After all, you have guns. The rest of us don't? Are you all cowards or something?
Oh, that's right. Buy another gun, become more of a man, huh?

The psyce of our society ahs been influenced by anti-depressent drugs, 1st person killer games, violence engrained in our minds from Hollywood, TV, our government bombing or providing weapons to other countries, amoung many other examples. We have many desensitized people because the entire above have an unconscious effect on some individuals especially the mentally ill. There are those in our government and and media that believe guns are the problem. The problem is a person bent on creating mayhem on our society. These sick and twisted individuals have shown themselves to us in extremely dangerious criminal offences such as the recient cases of arson. Our judicial and mental health systems have shown a minimal impact or consequences towards these offenders thus leaving the stable law abiding citizens at risk. With these circumstances the last thing a reasonable person needs or wants is the government restricting our ability to defend ourselves? Also, for the media to publish the names of CCW holders would creat a potential opportunity for criminals to seek these weapons. The idea behind concealed weapons is for a person not knowing a person is armed. Why not focus your media atention on registered arsonists, drug abusers, sex offenders and others with a history of problem causation and leave the CCW holders out of this arguement?
