    According to CHP on August 29, 2020 around 11:30 AM a motorcycle collision was reported

Felony DUI arrest in Murphys

    On August 29, 2020 CHP arrested Samuel Matthew Theule (35) of Murphys at Hwy 4 and Tom Bell Road.

    Theule was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged DUI causing great bodily injury and for DUI alcohol with bodily injury, both felonies.

National Guard arrives to help in Santa Cruz Mountains fire

    CalFire just released information that the California National Guard has arrived

Santa Cruz Mountains fire update

    As of August 30, 2020 Calfire reports that 84,000 acres have been destroyed in the Santa Cruz Mountains fire.  Containment is 35%.

   So far 755 homes have been discovered destroyed by the fire, along with 237 commercial structures.

Motorcycle collision in Murphys

    August 29, 2020 at 12:25 PM:  A motorcycle collision has been reported on the Murphys Grade Road about a mile outside Murphys.

   Emergency personnel are responding to the scene. 

Motorcycle crash in Mokelumne Hill

    August 29, 2020 at 11:45 AM:  A motorcycle crash has been reported at Hwy 26 and Hwy 49 in Mokelumne Hill.

   Several other motorcycles have stopped along the roadway. CHP is responding. 

More homes found destroyed in Santa Cruz Mountains

    As of August 29, 2020 CalFire reports that the Santa Cruz Mountains fire has burned 83,000 acres and is 29% contained.

   So far 620 homes and 56 commercial buildings have been destroyed, in addition to the 222 minor structures lost.  The wonderful Santa Cruz mountains have been devastated.

    August 26, 2020 at 1 PM:  A fire has been reported at a homeless camp, called Camp Hope on Stockton Road in Sonora.

   Several engines, water tenders and dozers are responding. The fire is approximately 1/4 acre so far.

Car into ravine in Mountain Ranch

    August 26, 2020 at 12:55 PM:  A car struck an embankment and rolled into a ravine on Mountain Ranch Road at Michel Road in Mountain Ranch.

   It isn't yet known if there are injuries. CHP is responding to the scene.

   August 24, 2020 at 1:30 PM:   The total acreage now burned in the Santa Cruz Mountains Fire in 78,000 and it is 13% contained.

   231 structures are confirmed to have been destroyed so far.


Lightning caused fires near Arnold

    August 24, 2020 at 12:30 PM:  The several lightning caused fires on SPI land near Arnold are reported to be extinguished.

   At less than a tenth of an acre in size, crews were able to attack them quickly.

Moccasin Fire UPDATE

    As of August 14, 2020 at 8 AM the Moccasin Fire in Tuolumne County is 2800 acres and is 20% contained.

   Two outbuildings have been destroyed, but so far no homes.

    Around 10:45 PM on August 23, 2020 lightning suddenly appeared over Ebbetts Pass, and then thunder claps scared all the animals.

   After that, the rain began.  Washing the dust off the trees and saving us from any lightning strikes that may have caused fires.

Yet another beautiful Boulder Creek home goes up in flames. 129 homes
have now been destroyed.  On top of that, the San Lorenzo Valley
water pipeline, which supplies Boulder Creek, Felton, Brookdale, etc.
 is destroyed.

Hwy 26 closed at Rancho Calaveras

    August 23, 2020 at 9:30 AM:  Due to an earlier major injury collision, Hwy 26 will be closed for at least 8 hours, per CHP.

   The collision near Baldwin Street took out 7 power poles, which are across all lanes of traffic. One vehicle became fully engulfed in flames.

    August 23, 2020 at 9:30 AM:  A pickup reportedly struck a power pole at Cedar Street and Hwy 12 in Valley Springs.

   No injuries were indicated, but Cedar Street will be closed until PG&E can arrive.

     August 23, 2020:  The fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains is now 71,1000 acres  and is 8% contained.

Shooting and looting in Santa Cruz Mountains

    August 22, 2020 at 3 PM:  We just heard that in addition to the looting going on at vacant houses in the Santa Cruz Mountains, they have other problems related to the fire.

   Many people are refusing to leave their homes and now they are investigating a man shooting at people trying to make him leave.  They should just leave him alone, don't you think?

    August 20, 2020 at 8:20 AM:  A vegetation fire was reported on Stoney Creek Drive and Pardee Dam Road around 4 AM this morning.

   Pardee Dam Road is closed for fire trucks. We don't know exactly what the status is right now.

   As of August 20, 2020 at 8 PM the Mocassin Fire in the Jamestown area was listed at 600 acres in size.

Evacuations spread in Santa Cruz Mountains

   As of August 20, 2020 at 1 PM Calfire has issued orders to evacuate Zayante Canyon, which is between Ben Lomond and Scotts Valley.

   This means it has crossed Hwy 9 and is burning up the mountain near Bear Creek Road.

UPDATE on Salt Fire in Calaveras County

    August 20, 2020:  The Salt Fire is now 1789 acres and is 35% contained.

    The cause of this fire is under investigation.

    UPDATE at 1:10 PM:  Fire is about 5 acres in size at this point.  They have closed Hwy 49 at Hwy 120 and plan to keep it closed into the evening hours.

    The Calaveras County Health officer reported that there are 7 new cases of Covid 19 in the county in the past few days,

    August 19, 2020:  Several lightning started fires are burning in the Mount Hamilton area of Santa Clara County, along with San Joaquin and the San Antonio Valley.

    According to Greg Stark, the Calaveras Sheriff has arrested two teenagers in Murphys for alcohol and vaping.

      We were notified this morning that PG&E has announced rolling blackouts for Northern California as a result of the extreme heat.

   Blackouts are expected to be approximately 2 hours in length and are to prevent longer outages on the grid.

Arrest for Obstruction in San Andreas

    On August 11, 2020 Calaveras Sheriff deputies arrested James Brian Standard (53) of San Andreas at his residence on Howell Road.

   Standard was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Threatening a crime with Intent to Terrorize, Assault and Battery, all felonies and for Obstructing an officer, a misdemeanor.

   On August 11, 2020 Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested Braden Beaumont Griffin (30) of Valley Springs on Camanche Parkway.

   Griffin was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Threatening a Crime with Intent to Terrorize, a felony and for Vandalism, a misdemeanor.

    The Calaveras Sheriff sent out a press release today thanking the many citizens who called and identified the suspect on the videos who burglarized White Pines Park.

   Matt Williams is apparently being held on $50,000 bail in the Calaveras County Jail.

   This morning on CNN Dana Bash interviewed Larry Kudlow regarding the Executive Order Trump signed yesterday in front of a crowd of 25 members at his golf club.

  Kudlow was at his worst trying to answer why NONE of the order was what Trump said it was. It was just another worthless gimmick to try and save his re-election.

City of Angels Camp applies for Emergency declaration

    Due to the wildfire in downtown Angels Camp on July 31, 2020 the City of Angels Camp passed a emergency declaration claim to the state.

   This may make them eligible for grants or loans.   They held a Special Meeting of the City Council on Friday, August 7, 2020 for that agenda item.

Calaveras County Covid cases increase

     The Calaveras Health Department reports that cases of the Covid virus have increased in the past week.

     As of August 6, 2020 the total number of cases confirmed is 136.

Boil water order has been lifted

    The boil water order in Avery through Forest Meadows has been lifted.

   CCWD says the water is now testing clear and clean.

Failure to appear on felony charge arrest

    On August 6, 2020 Calaveras Sheriff deputies arrested Ryan J. Utterback (33) of Arnold at his residence on Longman Drive.

   Utterback was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Failure to appear on a felony charge, a felony and for Possession of a controlled substance and possession of illegal paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.
