Injured deer on Hwy 4 in Ebbetts Pass

   At 7:58 PM an injured deer was reported to CHP at Hwy 4 and Avery Hotel Road in Avery. Use extra caution in that area until CHP arrives.

Car Crash at Hwy 16 and Hwy 49

   Three CHP units have been dispatched to the scene of a possible head-on traffic accident reported at 12:24 PM at Hwy 16 and Hwy 49 in Jackson.

   An ambulance is enroute due to major injuries. Use extras caution if driving in the area.  A fray Volvo and a black vehicle are involved. One way traffic due to emergency vehicles at that location.

Mudslide near Stevenot Bridge/Vehicle off the road

  A mudslide was reported at 12:34 PM just north of the Stevenot Bridge on Hwy 49. CHP is enroute to the location.

   At least one vehicle has slid off the road at that location. An ambulance has been dispatched due to injuries.

Win the Powerball...Pay back Child Support?

   "When I win the lottery, I'll pay my back child support!"  is something many men say.  One of them was apparently Pedro quezada, who was the $338 million Powerball winner.

   His payout is being held due to a warrant for back child support due in Passaic county, according to lottery officials.

Crabtree Says Niners were Divided

   Forty-Niner receiver Michael Crabtree is reported to have stated that the locker room on the 49ers was divided about replacing Alex Smith with colin Kaepernick.

   Fortunately, Crabtree says he was on the winning side, according to the Niners reports.

Texas District Attorney and Wife Shot

   Two weeks after the assistand district attorney in Kaufman County was shot and killed, the District Attorney and his wife were found shot and killed in their home.

  It isn't clear if they have a suspect.  Of course, this has nothing to do with "guns" per the NRA and friends.

Parolee Wanted in Abduction of girl

   A 30-year old parolee, Tobias Dustin Summers, who has a distinct tattoo on his right arm, is wanted in connection with a 10 year old LA girls' abduction, who was found wounded in Woodland Hills.

Angels Camp City Council Meeting

   The Angels Camp City Council meets on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. The meeting will be held at the Firehouse and begins at 6 PM after Closed session regarding litigation and hiring a new Finance Officer.

   On the regular agenda is the Angels Creek Trail construction and a workshop to amend the Oak Tree and Heritage trees guidelines.

Traffic Accident in San Andreas

   A traffic accident was reported at 2:35 PM at Hwy 49 and Toyanza in San Andreas. An ambulance is enroute to the scene. Three CHP units were dispatched

   One vehicle is apparently blocking the roadway, so use caution if driving in that area until cleared.

CHP Clearing Accident in Burson

    At 2:20 PM:  The accident at Hwy 12 and Burson Road in Burson is now being cleared by CHP.  There were no injures in the accident. A tow truck is at the scene.

Traffic Accident in Burson

   A traffic collision was reported to CHP at 5:28 PM on Southworth Rd at Hwy 12 in Burson. A lime green Subaru collided with another small vehicle.

   No injuries were reported. One vehicle is still in the eastbound lane.  CHP is enroute.

Council of Government Meeting

   Calaveras Council of Governments (the group that handles all CalTrans projects and monies), will meet on Wednesday April 3, 2013 at the Board of Supervisors Chamber in San Andreas.

   The meeting begins at 6:30 PM and has a number of items on the agenda. They are always intentionally list items very vaguely and make it difficult to say exactly what is going to be discussed.

Drone found in Florida Keys

   An orange, 20-foot military drone was found in Florida's Upper Keys over the weekend.  It had been shot down in January during a training mission.

   It was found about a mile from the Port Largo Canal.

   A 14 year old from LA died after inhaling a computer keyboard cleaner. The girl had been home alone for about 2 hours when she inhaled the cleaner, a new trend among middle school-aged children.

Mark Duper Arrested for Child Abuse

   Former Miami Dolphins receiver Mark Duper was arrested for alleged child abuse, according to Jacksonville authorities.

Salary Negotiations Kept Secret in Calaveras?

   We learned something from a knowledgeable friend in Sacramento today; that salary negotiations of county management hires must be done in open session, if more than two Supervisors are present.

   Do our Supervisors, or the City of Angels Council follow this law?  We don't think so.

Double Springs resident Bonnie Newman should be happy

   Bonnie Newman, who gets up to speak at the Calaveras Board of Supervisors every week in behalf of the disabled and their In-Home Supportive Services caretakers should be happy.
  
   Apparently Governor Brown has made a deal to end the court battle with unions who care for the disabled in their homes.

    It was reported yesterday that the cut in IHSS will be only 8%, instead of the 22% that had been previously suggested.

   These services allow people to stay in their own homes longer instead of being placed in a long-term care facility or nursing home.

   Jacog Roger Schulte (19), of Copperopolis was arrested at Steeplechase Drive and Bridlewood on March 16, 2013 for allegedly threatening to commit a crime and burglary in the first degree, both felonies.

   An injured deer that had been reported around 2:40 AM was agains reported at 7:30 to CHP as still alive on the side of Ridge Road in West Point.

Hot Air Balloon Injures NFL player

   When NFL free agent Dante Stallworth agreed to take his girlfirend on a hot air balloon ride, he believed it was safer than playing football.

   Surprise, surprise. This morning he is in a hospital in stabe condition after his balloon hit power lines.  It seems the gridiron may be safer for Stallworth.

Traffic Accident in San Andreas/Alcohol Involved

    A traffic collision was reported at 7:14 PM that had occurred on Mountain Ranch Rd in San Andreas, not far from the CHP office and government center.

   According to CHP the driver had been drinking and was taken to the Mark Twain Hospital emergency room because of injuries.

    CHP is at the scene of a tree vs car accident reported at 3:08 PM on Hwy 4 at Boards Crossing in Dorrington.

Teen Dies after Eating cookie

  A college freshman who suffered from a severe nut allergy, died after eating a cookie that contained peanut oil.

Is Calaveras Sheriff Corrupt?

   For quite some time the Sierra Sentinel has been very concerned about what is or is not going on at the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office.

   At 2:15 PM CHP has just arrive at Jenny Lind Rd and Da Lee Rd in Jenny Lind aftero a report of a pickup parked in the middle of the road at 1:45 PM causing a hazard.

Californians will have highest gas tax...

   When the new state gas tax increase goes into effect on July 1, California will have the highest gas tax in the nation, 70.6 cents a gallon, including federal taxes.

   The State Board of Equalization recently voted to increase our gas tax another 3.5 cents per gallon.

No more Fish and Game department

   As of January 1, 2013 California's Fish and Game Department is no more.  Jerry Brown signed the bill the officially changed the name to California Fish and Wildlife.

    Does this mean that killing the animals will be less important to them? Let's hope so, but we doubt it!

   

Highest Minimum Wage in Nation?

  Yes, it is in California, actually San Francisco, whose minimum wage is $10.55 an hour.

   San Jose raised its minimum wage, which goes into effect Monday, to $10 an hour.

   There is a national effort to raise the National Minimum Wage to $10 an hour by 2015.

Parcel Taxes Keep Popping up

   Yet another parcel tax, this one in Los Angeles, to pay for storm water runoff fixes in Los Angeles County has brought many protests from homeowners.

Amador County Air District Meeting

   On April 16, 2013 the Amador County air District Board will hold a meeting at 11 AM in the Board of Supervisors Chambers at 810 Court Street in Jackson.
