Queen Beatrix passes crown to son Willem-Alexander

As usual, 24 hours later, CalFire reports

    CalFire just now reported a grass fire in the 21000 block of Jack Page Rd in Sonora that occurred Sunday, April 28, 2013.

   CDF units at Sierra Training, Jamestown and Standard responded, in addition to local fire engines from Columbia College and  Sonora.

   The cause was an escaped debris burn. About an acre of grass and trees burned, estimated at around $200.

Valley Springs Woman Arrested for Firearms

Squatters reported in Arnold

   On April 27, 2013 the Calaveras Sheriff was called to a residence on Camanche Drive in Arnold for a report of people squatting, animals breaking in and there are drugs inside.

     The log says "no report taken" by the deputy.  Hmmmm...perhaps the animals at least had a right to be there.

   4-28-13:  A vehicle fire on Hwy 49 at Sutter Ione Rd was reported to CHP at 1:57 PM.  Reportedly the fire is now out. A tow truck and CHP are enroute to the scene.

    Use extra caution if traveling in that area. Minor injuries were reported.

New Dinosaur species found

   A brand new species of dinosaur has been found on the island of Madagascar. Called Dahalokely tokana fy its discoveres, the dinosaur was a member of a group called abelisauroids, carnivorous dinosaurs.

   This is the oldest abelisauroid found to date, They estimate it is 90 million years old. WOW! The name translates to "lonely little cattle rustler".

Body of Texas cheerleader identified

   The remains of a 13 year old middle school cheerleader were positively identified in the west Texas town of Snyder.

   The body was found near a lake more than two years after her mother reported her missing. The cause of death is under investigation.

Possible grave of ancient queen discovered

   Just outside London, in an old quarry, the skeleton of a woman, possibly 4000 years old, wearing gold was discovered. She also had a large drinking cup placed at her hip.

   Archaeologists are investigating whether she is an ancient queen, due to the fact that she was ornamented with beads of gold strung around her neck.

Car Crash on Hwy 4 in Dorrington

    UPDATE:   CHP quickly cleared this accident from the Hwy. The road is open and clear.

Calaveras County Sheriff Advisory #3 of Homicide Investigation

   4-28-13:  At 10:50 AM we receved a new Advisory message from the Calaveras County Sheriff regarding the Rancho Calaveras Homicide Investigation:

   Investigators are still processing the crime scene on Rippon Rd in Valley Springs while multiple surrounding agencies assist the Sheriff's Office continuing an area search of the neighborhood and following up on tips from the public.

   The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office will hold an official press briefing at 3 PM today at the Sheriff's sub-station in Valley Springs located at 200 Hwy 12 to update information relating to the homicide investigation.

   No further information is available at this time, according to the Sheriff.

New Push for Redevelopment...under a different name?

   When Governor Brown ended the Redevelopment Agency in 2012, many areas have had to sell off assets to pay back the state.

   The city of Salinas is one of those.  Assemblyman Alejo who represents that area, has introduced a new bill AB1080, which essentially recreates the redevelopment fund.

   Apparently on May 1, 2013 it is scheduled in the Committee on Local Governments, and seems to have support.

Utility worker killed in explosion yesterday

   On April 25, 2013 a Southern California Edison worker was killed when an underground utility vault (manhole) exploded in Riverside. Three other workers were injured.

   An investigation into the death is ongoing. Officials indicate they are not yet sure what caused the explosion.

   4-23-13:  Calaveras Sheriff's deputies were called out due to a verbal disturbance or altercation at the Sutton residence on Parrotts Ferry Rd. in Vallecito, according to the Sheriff's log.

  Parties agreed to separate for the evening and no charges were filed.

Someone locked in Workshop in Murphys

   4-24-13: A report was made from the Nugget in Murphys that someone had locked them in their workshop on Nicherson in Murphys.

    This was apparently a landlord/tenant dispute. Calaveras Sheriff's deputies took a report.

Burglaries reported in Calaveras County

  On April 23, 2013 burglaries were reported at a residence on Diltz Ln in Murphys and at the Valley Springs Chevron on Nove Way in Valley Springs.

   It is not known at this time if there is a suspect in either incident.

Calaveras County Water District meeting about Raising our Water Rates

   On Thursday, May 2, 2013 Calaveras County Water District (CCWD), is holding a Special meeting at 9 AM.

   On the agenda is a Discussion or Action regarding Increasing our water rates. HERE IT COMES!!!

  This meeting is being held at the CCWD board meeting room. Our guess is they are hoping no one notices and therefore no one comes.

Board of Supervisors Special Meeting May 7, 2013

   A special Calaveras Board of Supervisors meeting has been called for May 7, 2013. Under Closed Session is one possible litigation case.

   On the Consent Agenda is approval of the new Administrative Officer of the County, who will be paid $168,000 a year.

   On the regular agenda is a Study session for the 2013/14 recommended budget.

   A new Pew Research poll indicates that the old adage is true. At least for now. During the first 2 years of the nation's economic recovery, the mean net worth of households in the upper 7 % of the wealth distribution rose by an estimated 28%.

Brand new News Anchor Fired for F-bomb and S-bomb

   Sitting up at the news desk at NBC with Matt Lahr, A.J. Clemente looked like he was giving an interview or stage screen test on the Today Show.

   Clemente had been fired from his North Dakota anchor job on the first day for spouting out the F-bomg and the S-bomb withing a couple of sentences and while introducing himself.

   So where will he end up, sitting next to Matt Lahr or where? Seems like he got rewarded for the flubs, being interviewed on Today.

Delta Airlines Finds Beloved Shirt for 7 year old

   A 7-year- old boy left a t-shirt laying on a seat on a Delta Airlines flight. The special t-shirt had been his fathers', who had died in 2010. He even slept with the shirt, according to his Mom.

   Delta was able to find and retrieve the shirt for the 7-year old.  The family was grateful and praised Delta for their kindness.

Husband and Wife Arrested for Assault with a Firearm

     According to the Sheriff's Office, on April 20, 2013 at approxiately 12:23 AM, Calaveras Sheriff's deputies responded to a residence on the 10 block of Rufe Lane in Vallecito

Traffic Hazard on Hwy 49 at Middle Bar

   1:55 PM;  CHP is enroute to the scene of a reported traffic hazard on Hwy 49, just south of Middle Bar on the Amador County side of the river.

   The exact cause of the hazard is unclear at this time. Use caution in that area.

Wallace Post Office break in

    A burglary was reported at the Post Office on Cmanche Parkway South in Wallace over the weekend.

   Apparently a number of boxes had been broken into. A deputy arrived and took a report.

20 people may have been in rollover SUV

    After a Chevy Tahoe rolled, authorities discovered that possibly 18-20 people had been riding that vehicle when it rolled on April 20, 2013.

   One of the fatalities was a young boy.  The vehicle had tried to run when a police car tried to pull it over.

Five Dead in Washington Shooting

    Late last night, five people were killed in a shooting at an apartent complex near Seattle.  One of the dead was a suspect, shot by police.

  Eight police officers were placed on administrative leave as a result of the shooting.

   The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors meets tomorrow April 23, 2013 at 8 AM in the Board Chambers at 891 Mountain Ranch Rd in San Andreas.

   Before the regular meeting starts they have closed session regarding possible litigation filed August 23, 2012 by Calaveras Public Utility District. The Appointent of a County Administrative Officer is also on the Closed Session Agenda.

Al Michaels released from jail

   Legendary sportscaster Al Michaels, who was arrested and charged with alleged DUI on Friday, was reportedly released from custody.

    Michaels had been detected in a DUI checkpoint in Santa Monica.

Jim Thorpe's Remains will be moved

   When Jim Thorpe, the Pro Football Hall of Famer who is rememberd as "perhaps the greatest natural athlete the world has ever seen", was buried in Pennsylvania in 1953 at the order of his 3rd wife.

   After decades of legal wrangling, his two sons have won the right over Thorpes remains, and he will  most likely be moved to Oklahoma.

Avalanche buries 5 snowboarders

  4-21-13:  An avalanche that was about 600 ft. wide and eight feet deep, buried 5 snowboarders alive in the Loveland Pass area of Colorado yesterday. One other boarder escaped.

Burglary Reported in Burson

   4-19-13:  A resident on Hillvale Drive in Burson called the Sheriff to report that a burglary had occurred, that power equipment had been taken from the residence.

   No indication was made if there is a suspect in this case.

Red Pickup Stuck in Snow at Spicer

   4-19-13: A red Chevy Pickup was reported stuck in the snow at 12:49 PM on the Spicer Reservoir Road, which is off Hwy 4 in Ebbetts Pass, causing a traffic hazard.

     CHP is enroute to the scene.

   Disturbances were reported on April 18, 2013, loud enough to be called into the Sheriff, on Tuolumne in Angels Camp, at the Arnold Medical Clinic, on Thompson Way in Jenny Lind and on Russell Rd in San Andreas.

Big Rig Blocking Hwy 49 at Jackass Hill Rd

   CHP is directing traffic in both directions on Hwy 49 near Jackass Hill Rd. after a big rig broke down and is blocking a lane.

   A big rig tow has been called. The broken down truck has a load of 50,000 pounds. Traffic is backed up for at least a mile each way.

Mobile Home Fire in Railroad Flat

   CalFire reports that they are at the scene of a mobile home fire on Railroad Flat Road in Railroad Flat. The fire was well advanced by the time crews arrived at the location.

US builders see 7% increase

  Since the financial gurus all say that when building comes back, the economy comes back, there were some cheers over the 7% increase, the largest in 5 years.

   The bad sign is that these are all apartments or what is now called "cluster" housing. This is the housing that is planned for the poor people in the future in Calaveras County, too.

   Four years ago on the 15th, the Tea Party movement had its big splash, but Monday, on the 15th, there was hardly a pebble of a splash and events were sparsely attended.

   Actually, let's call her the ex-wife of former Governor Sanford in South Carolina, who apparently went into his exes house and watched half of a footfall game with his son.

   They say the relaxing comfort without any judgment that a dog brings cannot be replaced by any other type of therapy.

   Pat Summerall, an NFL player in the 1950's and 60's, went on to become one of footballs most respected broadcasters for decades, died yesterday. He was 82.

Nationwide computer glitch grounds American Airlines

   Officials at American Airlines say that it was their reservation system that caused a major glitch and grounded nearly all flights yesterday.

    They are hopeful that the problem is repaired and they are rescheduling the grounded flights.

Carroll "Augie" Grapentine

    Carroll "Augie" Grapentine, of Valley Springs, passed away of metastic lung cancer at home on April 6, 2013.  He was 66.

More cameras at finish line than any other place

  Due to the fact that people were clustered around the finish line with their cameras and smart phones taking pictures the FBI believes that somewhere in all that film will be a clue.

   The FBI states that there were probably more cameras at that location than anywhere else on earth, and they have asked everyone to turn them over to help them find the perpertrator of the bombing.

   Jerry Mathers (the Beav) is mourning the loss of his friend and business associate Frank Bank, who played Lumpy on the 50's TV series Leave it to Beaver. Bank turned 71 yesterday.

      CHP is assisting CalTrans today while they perform maintenance on Hwy 26 in Mokelumne Hill.

Chain controls were issued on Hwy 4 on Hwy 4 from Poison Springs to Mt Reba around 6:30 PM.

North Pond Hermit Gets Marriage Proposal

   Authorities raised the bail of the North Pond hermit after a strange marriage proposal was delivered to the man.

   They are afraid he may be exploited after 27 years in the woods.

FAA inspects Boeing 737's

   The FAA has ordered the inspection of 1000 Boeing 737's for possible faulty parts in the tails.

MIssing Children found in Long Island pool

   Two siblings who had been reported missing, were found dead in the cold black waters of a neighbors  pool. They were 5 and 7 years old.

Jenna Bush Hageer has baby girl

   The Bush's are proud grandparents since their daughter Jenna gave birth to a daughter Margaret Laura "Mila" Hager, named for both grandmothers.

3 dead after 2 bombs in Boston

   So far 3 are known to have died and nearly 100 injured in the 2 explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

Vallecito resident Arrested on Hwy 49

   On April 14, 2013 Michelle Arlene Mitchell, (25) of Vallecito was arrested for alleged Possession of a Controlled Substance, a felony, and for DUI ALcohol or Drugs, a misdemeanor, by CHP on Hwy 49 near the Amador County line.

   Mitchell was booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

Suspicious people reported everywhere in Calaveras County

   Over the weekend of April 13 and 14, 2013 reports of suspicious people and vehicles

"Neighbors Cat had kittens under my deck"

   Do people really call to get animal control to come out when the neighbors cat has kittens under your deck? A resident on Baldwin in Valley Springs did just that.

  Did you advise the neighbor? The Calaveras Sheriff's office told them to call back on weekdays.

Suspicious, staggering person arrested in San Andreas

   After someone reported a suspicious person on April 13, 2013, around the Wells Fargo Bank in San Andreas, a Calaveras Sheriff's deputy arrested  the reportely staggering person.

   No other information is known at this time.

Burglary Reported in Valley Springs

   A burglary on North Branch Ct. in Valley Springs was reported on April 13, 2013. Reportedly, a hammer was used to break a window, and items inside were stolen.

   A Calaveras Sheriff's deputy took the report. There is no indication of whether there is a suspect in the case at this time.

Traffic Hazard in San Andreas

   UPDATE:  At 8:50 AM.  The bus is now out of the lanes.

Pickup crashes in Railroad Flat

   A solo pickup crash was reported to CHP at 8:10 AM at Railroad Flat Rd and Swiss Ranch Rd in Railroad Flat.

   No injuries were reported. CHP is enroute to the scene.

W.A.T.C.H. bus on fire in Copperopolis

   One of the buses from W.A.T.C. H. caught fire on Hwy 4 in Copperopolis. It was reported around 7:21 AM and CalFire immediately responded to the scene.

   No injuries were reported. A tow truck is on its way to that location.

Dog on Hwy 99 at Hwy 4 in Stockton chased

   6:09 PM:  Both CHP and drivers who have stopped, have tried to catch a dog that is loose on Hwy 99 at Hwy 4 in Stockton, without success.

Boulder in road on Hwy 88 at Kirkwood

   A boulder has rolled into the roadway on Hwy 88 at Kirkwood Meadows Drive. CHP is enroute to the area..

   CalTrans says no one is on duty, they will have to do a call out to remove boulder.

CHP handling two accidents on Hwy 88

   Two accidents which occured closely in time on Hwy 88 are being handled at this time by CHP. One is at Hwy 88 and Peddler Vista where it is unknown if there are injuries.

   The other was reported at 5:38 PM at Hwy 88 and Hams Station, where a vehicle hit a tree. An ambulance is enroute to the scene of this accident due to injuries.

Traffic Accident in Carson Hill

   At 5:01 PM a traffic accident was reported on Hwy 49 in Carson Hill. At least one vehicle is reportedly run off the roadway.

   It is unknown if there are injuries at this time. CHP is enroute to the scene.

Peyton Manning Says he's even better this year

   The Denver Broncos quarterback, Peyton Manning, has been telling everyone that he is even better than he was last year.

   Manning insists that his health has improved, and he is ready for another year leading the Broncos.



  

Bus crash near Yosemite

    After a tour bus crashed off an embankment near Yosemite, 16 people were reported with minor injuries.

   CHP reports that the bus was about 40 miles south of the park when the accident occured around 6 PM Saturday.

Avalanches in Washington state

   One woman has been found dead and a 60 year old man is still missing after 2 avalanches ripped through the mountains Saturday near Snoqualmie Pass in Washington state.

Gun-rights group endorses background checks

   Splitting from the National Rifle Association, the Citizens Committee for the right to Keep and Bear Arms has now endorsed the Manchin-Toomey bill for tighter background checks.

   The weather service is telling us to expect clouds with possibility of rain after midnight Sunday night and Monday.

Joshua Tree National Park Closed

   Due to a rash of graffiti defacing the park, and with it being posted on Facefook as if they are pround of it, the Joshua Tree National Park has announced that it will close access to the parks' Becker Dam area.

   The announcement stated that it was due to "recent and increasing acts of vandalism".

Accused Teen surprisingly Pleads "Not Guilty"

   Denver area residents were terrified last fall after the dismembered body of a kidnapped 10 year old girl was discovered.

   Denver Police said that the 18 year old confessed to the crime, but a stunned courtroom heard the accused man state that he is "Not Guilty".

   Deemed to be better than nothing, retail gun dealers say it could be a boon to their business, and could hurt gun show sales.

   It seems that Mike Ditka, Hall of Famer and Super Bowl-winning coach, thinks its ridiculous to encourage fans to try to influence the outcoe of the game by screaming at the tops of their lungs.

   We all know that it is true, especially in some stadiums that noise can affect the QB's calling plays for the game.

Prisoners protest ended by violence

   'After prisoners at Guantanamo Bay covered cameras and windows, US military guards raided the camp and moved detainees into solitary cells to suppress a widening protest.

   Several "non-lethal" shots were fired during the raid by guards.

   We hear that Halle Berry, who is due to have a baby this summer is suddenly not trying to hide her baby bump.

   One of the men on E entertainment called it the "jiffy pop" pregnancy.
