Head-on Collision on Hwy 26

   June 30, 2020 at 3 PM:  CHP is at the site of a head-on collision between a garbage truck and a SUV at Hwy 26 and Fine Road in Linden.

   An ambulance and tow trucks are responding to the scene.  Be extra cautious if in that area.

Battery against Peace Officer arrest

   According to the Calaveras Sheriff on June 29, 2020 Toby Armon Gordan-Evans (27)  of Sacramento was arrested at the Calaveras County Jail.

   Gordan-Evans was booked into the county jail for alleged Battery on a Peace Officer, a felony and for being Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance, a misdemeanor. 

Drowning at Camanche

   On June 28, 2020 around 12:30 PM Calaveras deputies responded to Camanche Reservoir where a 12 year old non-swimmer went under.

    The boy was pulled from the reservoir about 30' from shore in about 14' of water. 

Fire in Oakdale

   June 30, 2020 at 12 Noon:  A grass fire has been reported on Hwy 108 at Wilms Road in the Oakdale area.

   Fire personnel are responding to the scene.

Motorcycle collision on Hwy 49

   June 27, 2020 at 3:55 PM:  A motorcycle collision has been reported on Hwy 49 near Electra Road outside Mokelumne Hill.

   An ambulance is responding to the scene.

   June 27, 2020 at 3 PM:  A three vehicle head-on collision has been reported on Hwy 49 at Parrotts Ferry Road in Columbia.

   It isn't clear if there are injuries. Be extra cautious if headed that way.  There is debris all over the road.

Alfalfa gets arrested

   June 22, 2020 at 3 PM:  A smoke check is being made on Summit Level Road in Ebbetts Pas after black smoke is visible.

Live Bear Cam on at Katmai

   The annual Brown Bear fishing derby is being filmed at Brooks Falls in Katmai National Forest in Alaska.

   The salmon run has not officially begun yet, though, so there are not as many bears right now. The camera is on live.

Postal truck in head-on collision in Sonora

   June 22, 2020 at 1:30 PM:  A head on collision has been reported at Shaws Flat Road and Hwy 49 in Sonora.

Warrant arrest in Copperopolis

   On June 21, 2020 Calaveras Sheriff deputies arrested Joseph Jay Harrison (57) of Copperopolis near his residence on Inyo Ct.

   Harrison was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged outstanding warrants for Possession of a firearm by a felon or addict and for Possession of a Controlled Substance while armed, both felonies and for Possession of Controlled Substance Paraphernalis and Carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, misdemeanors.

   June 22, 2020 at 11:40 AM:  A grass fire has been reported on Welch Lane and Preston Avenue in Ione.

Amazon truck rolls over

Calfire Captain David Lutz dies on hiking trip

   According to Calfire, on June 17, 2020 Captain David Lutz of the Santa Cruz unit, died while hiking in Pfeiffer State Park.

   Details of his death have not been made available. He was 33 and leaves his wife and children.

   June 20, 2020 at 12:55 PM:  A collision has been reported on Hwy 4 at Big Trees Road in Ebbetts Pass.

   According to the Calaveras Sheriff, on June 18, 2020 deputies arrested Christopher Paul Bates (53) of Valley Springs at his home on Baldwin Street.

  UPDATE:  As of 7:15 AM June 18, 2020 Calfire reports that the total acreage burned so far by the Walker Fire in still 1100 acres.  It is now 50% contained, but 50 homes are still threatened.

Angels Camp gets $250,000

   The City of Angels Camp is getting $250,000 as reimbursement for the Butte Fire.

Collision in Valley Springs

   June 16, 2020 at 4 PM:  A white Angels Sheet Metal van has collided with a white Mercedez at Hwy 26 and St. Andrews Drive in Valley Springs.

   No injuries have been indicated but both vehicles need to be towed.

Arrest at Mark Twain Hospital

   On June 14, 2020 Calaveras Sheriff deputies arrested Sean Christopher Borean (31) of Hathaway Pines at Mark Twain Hospital in San Andreas.

   Borean was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Threatening a Crime with Intent to Terrorize, a felony and for Resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.

Injured deer on Hwy 88

   June 16, 2020 at 3:25 PM:  An injured deer has been reported on Hwy 88 at Carson Drive on Carson Pass.

   CHP is en route to remove the deer and probably shoot it.

Small dog struck and laying on Hwy 12

   June 16, 2020 at 3:20 PM:  A small dog has been struck by a vehicle and is laying in the lanes on Hwy 12 near Hwy 88 in Clements.

Fatal collision at Kennedy Meadows

   CHP indicates there was an Attempt to locate report out of Mono County for this truck.  The truck is in a creek. It isn't known if anything leaked out.

   A heavy duty tow truck with at least a 50' chain will be required to remove truck.

Explosion and fire in Railroad Flat

   June 16, 2020 at 1 PM:  An explosion and fire have been reported on Railroad Flat Road in Railroad Flat.

13 year old boy drowns in Tuolumne Rive

   On Sunday June 14, 2020 authorities were called to the Tuolumne River in Waterford for a missing 13 year old boy.

   By the time the boy was located he was deceased. The coroner and a chaplain was called for the family of the boy.

Angels Camp City Council museum employees

   On June 16, 2020 Angels Camp City Council will meet for a closed session at the Firehouse.

   The public will not be allowed. They are holding a closed session regarding employees at the museum in town.

Angels Camp police open lobby

   The Angels Camp Police have just announced that their lobby is now reopened.

   It was closed due to the COVID 19 shut down.

Oscar Lee Wood of New Mexico

   Oscar Lee Wood of Elephant Butte, New Mexico, passed away on May 26, 2020 at the age of 90.

   He was born November 17, 1929 in Mountanair, New Mexico to the late William Oscar and Anna Mae Wood, and was a lifetime resident of New Mexico.

   He was an Elks Club member and a lifetime member of the NRA.  He belonged to the Church of the Butte and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

  Oscar was preceded in death by his wife Ina Belle (Ludecke) Wood. He is survived by his son Quinton Lee Wood and wife Connie, daughters Linda Alvina Doty and husband Russ and Tommie
Carter and husband Gene, and sister Anna Lou Griener and husband Tom.

    He was also blessed with eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

   A private family burial has already taken place.

   The annual Peddler's Market is coming to downtown Arnold on July 4 and 5, 2020.

   June 11, 2020 at 2:30 PM:  A fire has been reported on Clinton Road near Lake Tabeaud in the Calaveras River area.

   It is on the Calaveras side of the river, per a motorcyclist who reported it. Fire personnel are responding.

  June 11, 2020 at 2:20 PM:  A fire has been reported on Hwy 4 at Big Trees Village.

  Fire personnel are responding to the scene.  There is a control burn in the area, so its not clear if this is what they reported.

Calaveras District Attorney Yook accuses Supervisors of "Laying people off!"

Calaveras now has 21 confirmed COVID 19 cases

   As of June 9, 2020 the Calaveras County Health Department reports that 21 cases of COVID 19 have been confirmed.

   15 have recovered. There are no deaths.

Logging truck drops wood on car

   June 10, 2020 at 12 Noon:  A logging truck reportedly dropped some wood onto a car and then left the scene on Sequoia in Arnold.

   No injuries have been indicated, but there is damage to the vehicle.

Tree down on Poole Station Road

   June 10, 2020 at 10:20 AM:  A tree is down on Poole Station Road near Riata Road in San Andreas.

   Be extra cautious if in that area until Public Works can remove it from the roadway.

   June 10, 2020 at 9:55 AM:  Bricks have been reported spilled in the lanes on Hwy 49 near DellOrto Road in Mokelumne Hill.

CHP catches burglary suspect

   On June 9, 2020 after Calaveras Sheriff deputies were unable to stop burglary suspect Joseph Robert Westbrook in San Andreas, CHP took up the pursuit.

   He was chased in his vehicle and then on foot by CHP, who captured him and booked him into Calaveras County Jail for several alleged felonies.

Control burn at PAWS

   The Performing Animal Welfare Society is having Calfire conduct a control burn on 125 acres adjacent to their animal enclosures in the San Andreas area.

   The burn will be held on June 11 and 12, 2020. Smoke will be visible in San Andreas.

Injured coyote on Hwy 26

   June 9, 2020 at 9:55 AM:  An injured coyote has been reported on Hwy 26 at Silver Rapids Road in Rancho Calaveras.4

   The coyote is on the roadway, so be extra cautious until help can arrive.

Hwy 4 to close for repair work

   On June 16 and June 17, 2020 Caltrans will close Hwy 4 from the summit of Ebbett's Pass to the Silver Creek Campground.

   The closure is required due to the fact that the roadway is too narrow to pass cars around the work.

Calaveras Supervisors and Angels City Council meet jointly

   On Tuesday June 9, 2020 at 9 AM the Angels Camp City Council will meet jointly with the Calaveras County Supervisors.

  It will be a virtual meeting to be updated on the status of the COVID 19 virus in Calaveras County.

Llama chased by dogs

   June 8, 2020 at 7:30 AM:  A llama has been reported on Camanche Parkway near Pattison Road in Burson, being chased by dogs.

   Hopefully the owner can save the llama from the same fate as the poor ponies not long ago.

   Angels Camp Police report that although they have been told that protests scheduled for tomorrow, June 5 and Saturday June 6, have been postponed they still have concerns.

   Police feel that some people may still show up at Hwy 4 and Hwy 49 and are encouraging all participants and community members to remain peaceful.

    A control burn is planned for Hogan Dam on June 3, 2020 between 8 and 10 AM.
