   Recently there has been a lot of talk about social media and certain work groups who have nothing to do but slander and gossip

Representative says time to 'break up the banks"!

   During a bitter hearing in the House of Representatives on September 29, 2016 regarding the fraud at Wells Fargo Bank, a California Representative said it best.

   Representative Brad Sherman (D) California said " 2008 the banks were too big not to BAIL. We now learn that they are too big to manage, too big to regulate. Time to break them up!"

Calaveras Council of Government meets to discuss grants

   The Calaveras Council of Governments (COG) who gets all of the money from the state of California for our highways in Calaveras County, meets on Wednesday, October 5, 2016.

   The meeting will include discussion of several grant applications and will be held in the Calaveras Supervisors Chambers in San Andreas at 5:30 PM.

   Calaveras County Water District held a meeting on the impact of Cannabis in the Central Valley Water District and regulations regarding the growing of cannabis.

   In their power-point presentation they showed photos of exactly what it looks like
when SPI or other logging companies clear-cut our forests!  But that's OK, right!'

    Then the  logging companies spray poison to stop anything from growing and it runs into our creeks and that's OK, right? 

   Something is definitely wrong in our government when Clear-Cutting and poisoning our land and water is ok, but growing cannabis is wrong!!

Caltrans working on Hwy 4

   September 30, 2016 at 11 AM:  Be cautious on Hwy 4 as Caltrans is working on the roadway between Angels Camp and Copperopolis.

   CHP is on site so to try and avoid any more collisions such as the bad one last week.

Wells Fargo illegally repossessed vehicles?

   The US government has announced that Wells Fargo Bank has agreed to pay more than $4.1 million to resolve allegations it illegally repossessed cars.

    Most of these vehicles were apparently owned by military member. Is there any end to Wells Fargo's questionable activities??

City of Angels Camp still raising fees

   At the Angels Camp City Council meeting on Tuesday October 4, 2016 they will again be raising fees in the city. The meeting starts at 5 PM at the Fire station.

   Then they will discuss creating SMOKING OUTPOSTS??? all around the city. This is to encourage smoking.  Bad idea???? 

Soap opera creator Agnes Nixon dies

   Agnes Nixon died on Wednesday at the age of 93.

   She was the creator of All My Children, popular daytime soap opera.

Sacramento man shoots wife while hunting squirrels

   A man from Sacramento was hunting squirrels in Placer County when he states he accidentally shot and killed his wife.

   An investigation is being conducted into the shooting incident.

Calf on Hwy 4 in Copperopolis

   September 29, 2016 at 12:45 PM:  A black calf has been reported on Hwy 4 near Horseshoe Lane in Copperopolis.

   Be extra cautious until CHP can locate the owner and return it to the pasture.

Three dead, 75 injured in train crash

   A train in New Jersey crashed into the station killing at least 3 and injuring 75 others.

   An investigation into why the train did not stop is ongoing.

   Amador County is reporting that as of September 29, 2016 one reported case of West Nile Virus has been reported

   West Nile is most commonly transmitted to humans via mosquito bites.

Cow on roadway in Farmington

   September 29, 2016 at 6:55 AM:  A cow has been reported on Escalon Bellota Road near Hwy 4 in Farmington.

  Be cautious in the area until CHP can arrive at the scene.

New Casino in Elk Grove

  A new casino is being planned at the abandoned shopping center property on Hwy 99 in Elk Grove.

   This should be a real business boom for their economy. They must have smart elected officials in Elk Grove.

CalFire releases cause of Marshes Fire

   The Marshes Fire, burning near Don Pedro, has destroyed over 1000 acres in Tuolumne County so far.

   The fire was caused, per CalFire, by a vehicle pulling into the dry grass. As CalFire states, 95% of all fires are caused by humans. Fire season is not over yet!

   On September 27, 2016 Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested David Craig Althouse (52) of Copperopolis at his residence on Ricky Road.

   Althouse was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Assault with a Deadly Weapon not a Firearm, a felony and was released on bond.

Collision in Mokelumne Hill

   September 27, 2016 at 4:25 PM:  A collision has been reported on Hwy 26 at Hwy 49 in Mokelumne HiIll.

   A Dodge van and a Toyota towing a vehicle were involved. No injuries have been indicated. CHP is at the scene.

   On September 25, 2016 Donald W. O'Brien (36) of San Andreas at approximately 12:15 AM was driving a 2007 Toyota northbound on Hwy 49 north or Springfield Road in the Columbia area.

   The Calaveras Supervisors are hearing a presentation of the dead trees in Calaveras County.

   The expert says that within 6 months a dead tree can become weak

Loma Fire near Morgan HIll grows

   September 27, 2016 at 11:50 AM:  The Loma Fire in the Morgan Hill area is now 1085 acres and is only 5% contained.

   One home has been destroyed and evacuations are in effect in the area.

Last loan NOT used for animal shelter, as planned???

  Very interesting. Although it is very hard to understand the woman pushing the loans to the county, she mentioned that we took out COP's (LOANS) to build an animal shelter.  Al Segalla had just mentioned that the money is often used for something other than what the taxpayers knew about.

   Then Shirley Ryan quickly admitted to say that that money was actually used for the Sheriff's Office project and NOT the Animal Shelter. The money is stolen for use as the county wants; not as they borrowed for.  Isn't this fraud???? Against the taxpayers???

More LOANS for Calaveras County???

   Some representative from a firm who sells Certificates of Participation to Calaveras County.

   What are COP's??  They are the code for LOANS that these Supervisors want to add to our debt load in Calaveras.  More debt for Taxpayers????

   UPDATE:  We just received a copy of the letter via email that included the B word in reference to a county employee. It also stated "Let's fire the B****" as a headline.

   It appears to have been sent allegedly by a man named Carl Stoughton regarding cannabis.

Three arrested in Burson

   On September 26, 2016 the Calaveras Sheriff's Office arrested three people on Albert Lane in Burson.

   Two were residents of Washinton state and one was from Bakersfield. 

Calaveras Supervisor Edson allows AGENDIZED comments in public comment

   At the September 27, 2016 meeting Calaveras Supervisor Edson allowed a woman from Wallace to make a Public Comment  about the Urgency Ordinance for Cannabis.

   We aren't sure why he allowed this on an agendized item!!

Calaveras Supervisor Chair criticizes public member for name calling

   At the beginning of the Calaveras Supervisor meeting on September 27, 2016 it was announced that Supervisor Wright was not feeling well and would not be attending the meeting.

   Then Supervisor Edson criticized a member of the community for calling a staff member at the county a profane name.  He says no derogatory comments about staff will be allowed. He is setting up a civilized standard for the public to use.

Loma Fire near Morgan Hill

   September 26, 2016 at 5 PM:  The Loma Fire near Morgan Hill is now 150 acres with no containment at this time.

   This fire was reported around 3:55 PM and we have no further detail yet.

Fire near Don Pedro

   The Marshes Fire near Don Pedro Reservoir off Hwy 49 is 150 acres with no containment.

   The fire was reported around 12:15 PM on September 26, 2016. Areas around Hetch Hetchy Reservoir are being evacuated.

Cannabis on Calaveras Supervisors agenda--

   At the September 27, 2016 meeting at 9 AM the Calaveras Supervisors will receive a staff report on the progress of the urgency ordinance it passed on cannabis farming.

   Everything from budget to law enforcement, which has been working very well.

Sawmill Fire in Sonoma County

   Per CalFire, the Sawmill Fire, which started on September 25, 2016 is now 1500 acres and is 20% contained.

   This fire is 10 miles from Cloverdale. Evacuations are taking place in the Geyser area.

Garden Art Party in Burson

   The Calaveras County Arts Council is announcing that they are holding a Garden Art Party at Rising Sun Nursery in Burson on October 9, 2016 from 3 PM to 5 PM.

   The public is invited. Tickets are $20 each with wine, beer, light snacks and soda served, as well as live music.  There will be art from all over Calaveras County on display.

New Fire Manager in Stanislaus National Forest

   On September 24, 2016 Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested Jesse Lynn Duran (51) of Oregon at Sierra Energy in San Andreas.

    Duran was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Carrying a Concealed Dirk or Dagger, a felony.

Bell Fire in Amador County

   The Bell Fire, which started on started on September 23, 2016 around 1:15 PM reached 45 acres, but is now 75% contained.

Mini-van rolls over Hwy 99 center rail

   September 24, 2016 at 12 Noon:  A mini-van has reportedly taken out about 40' of center divide guard rail and rolled over into the incoming lanes of Hwy 99 at the Kiernan Avenue exit in Salida.

Alleged Sex Offender arrested in West Point

   On September 21, 2016 Daniel Ray Calderon (27) of Modesto was arrested by Calaveras County Sheriff's deputies on John Eaph Trail in West Point.

   Calderon was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Failing to Register as a Felony Sex Offender, Violation of Probation and Prohibited to Own Ammunition, all felonies and for Obstruction or Resisting Arrest, a misdemeanor, in addition to an outstanding warrant.

Three arrested in Copperopolis

   On September 15, 2016 Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested three people at a residence on Littlejohn Road in Copperopolis.

Employee Embezzlement alleged by District Attorney

   On September 15, 2016 the Calaveras District Attorney arrested Phillip Daniel Godoy (31) of Copperopolis, at the Calaveras Sheriff's Office.

   Godoy was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Embezzlement by an Employee over $400 and for Grand Theft by a Servant over $950, both felonies.

Angels Camp resident arrested

   On September 15, 2016 Angels Camp Police arrested Randall Ryan Johnson (59) of Angels Camp on Bret Harte Drive at Hwy 49.

   Johnson was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Threatening a Crime with Intent to Terrorize, Infliction of Corporal Injury on a Spouse and Burglary, all felonies, and for Disorderly Conduct due to Alcohol, a misdemeanor.

Two Modesto residents arrested for alleged Human Trafficking

     Two Modesto residents were arrested by Calaveras Sheriff's deputies on September 14, 2016, one in Yuba County and the other at ICE.

    They were both charged with Human Trafficking, Kidnapping, Battery,

Corporal Injury on Spouse alleged in Angels Camp

   On September 12, 2016 Angels Camp Police arrested Regina Celeste Macedo (51) of Redwood City on Selkirk Road in Angels Camp.

   Macedo was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Inflicting Corporal Injury on a Spouse, a felony.

Arrest at Turner Park

   On September 11, 2016 Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested Maxwell Allen Gillette (40) of San Andreas, at Turner Park in San Andreas.

   Gillette was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Possession of a Controlled Substance in Prison, a felony, along with an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

Murphys man arrested for alleged Threats

   On September 10, 2016 Calaveras Sheriff's deputies arrested Ronald Andrew Belmont (45) of Murphys at his residence on Hilltop Circle.

   Belmont was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Threatening a Crime with the Intent to Terrorize, a felony.

Valley Springs woman arrested for alleged threats

     On September 8, 2016 Juliann Marie Eddie (35) of Valley Springs was arrested by Calaveras County Sheriff's deputies at her residence on Myrtle Street in Valley Springs.

   Eddie was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for allegedly Inflicting Corporal Injury on a Spouse and for Threats with Intent to Terrorize, both felonies

   September 24, 2016 at 7 AM:  A solo vehicle collision has been reported on Hwy 108 at Washington Street in Sonora.

   Minor injuries were reported and some Caltrans was notified of rail damage. A tow truck is en route to the scene.

   At the September 26, 2016 meeting of the Jackson City Council, enacting a Transit Occupancy Tax (TOT) will be discussed.

   The meeting begins at 7 PM at City Hall at 33 Broadway in Jackson.

Calaveras County Water District to discuss cannabis

   At a workshop on September 28, 2016 at 9 AM, the Calaveras County Water District will discuss the cannabis issue.

   Cannabis cultivation effects on water are the purpose, and regulations to protect the water for Calaveras residents is the issue. The meeting will be held in their boardroom
in San Andreas.

National Public Lands Day--Tuolumne River needs your help

   On Saturday, September 24, 2016  the Groveland District of USFS is hosting a volunteer work day to repair and resurface a raft and kayak launch at the popular Merals Pool put-in on the Tuolumne Wild and Scenic River.

Hwy 4 in Copperopolis still backed up from collision

   Traffic in the Copperopolis area on Hwy 4 is still backed up due partly to an earlier collision. The big rig tow is stuck in traffic.

  Hwy 4 is to be avoided lately due to Caltrans work being done anyway, and traffic blocked in both directions, so be careful if you must head that way.

   On Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 7 PM the Murphys water district (UPUD) will hold a public meeting to discuss possible rate hikes.

    The meeting will be held at the Native Sons Hall at 389 Main Street in Murphys. If passed, rate hike will begin on December 1, 2016.

Vacant homes can be fire hazard!!

   The exact cause of the fire at a vacant house on Mountain View Road in Angels Camp on September 21, 2016 has not yet been indicated by the Angels Fire Department, but we all need to be aware of and report any suspicious activity at a vacant property.

   Whether for purposes of shelter or drug use, fires can be started as in this case, causing the entire structure to be damaged.  Fortunately, fire personnel were able to stop the fire from more than minor damage to other homes or spreading into other areas.

Calaveras Sheriff clearing illegal cannabis grows!!

  Now that Calaveras County has made the cultivation of marijuana legal in Calaveras County, the Sheriff is able to clear out the illegal grows reported. The permit process works for all of us.

   Recently the Sheriff has found people held against their will to help with harvesting, and eradicated millions of dollars worth of illegal grows from our county.  Congratulations, Sheriff DiBasilio for helping to remove criminals from Calaveras!

Suspicious death in San Andreas

   According to the Calaveras Sheriff's Office on September 21, 2016 deputies were dispatched to an apartment at the Creekside Apartments in San Andreas for a welfare check on a tenant who had not been seen recently.

   A deceased person was located inside the apartment. An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death. Investigators found that a silver 2004 Chevy Tahoe registered to the tenant is unaccounted for at this time.

Traffic collision on Hwy 4

   September 23, 2016 at 8:30 AM:  CHP are still at the scene of a traffic collision on Hwy 4 near Horseshore Road in Copperopolis where one vehicle hit the rear of a water truck and then another vehicle hit them.

   An ambulance is en route and traffic will be delayed for some time per CHP. Be extra cautious if headed that way.

   September 8, 2016 at 10:30 AM:  A big rig loaded with apples apparently had the load shift and then dump on Comstock Road near Duncan Road in Linden.

Traffic collision in Murphys

   September 8, 2016 at 8:15 AM:  A traffic collision was reported on Hwy 4 near Pennsylvania Gulch Road in Murphys.

   There was glass and debris in the roadway, but officers got the vehicles off the highway quickly at that busy time of the morning commute. No injuries were indicated.

    Three adults and a minor were arrested for shooting people repeatedly with pellet guns  in three different locations in Stockton. Psychiatric help is truly needed, we believe, for anyone who is an adult and tries to hurt people or animals with a pellet gun.

   CCWD just notified us that about half of Meadowmont Subdivision customers will be without water most of the day on September 8, 2016.

North Shore Lake Tahoe saved from development

     The US Forest Service has made a deal to buy 120 acres on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe to prevent it from being developed and logged by co-owners SPI and Mountainside Partners. We don't know the total price paid.

   The Saddle Fire in Butte County is now 850 acres and has claimed three homes.

   Containment is now at 37%. Evacuations remain in place.

Animal stuck in swamp cooler

   September 6, 2016 at 10:40 AM: The fire department is responding to a call for assistance in Vallecito for an animal stuck in a swamp cooler. This is off Parrotts Ferry Road.

   We don't know what kind of animal it is, but small animals can get into those coolers and then cannot get out. 

Butte County Fire forces evacuations

   The Saddle Fire in Butte County is now 840 acres and is only 10 % contained.

   Evacuations are taking place in the area around Hwy 70 and Nelson Bar Road. Three structures have been destroyed so far.

Calaveras Supervisors Special meeting at 1 PM

   The Mokelumne Fire in Alpine County has now grown to over 540 acres. It is burning in an area with no homes in the Mokelumne River Canyon.
