Assemblyman Frank Bigelow Opposes Affordable Care Act

The Assembly Committee on Appropriations voted yesterday along party lines to support AB 2x (Pan), which locks into state law the federal Affordable Care Act requirements.

The vote was 12 to 5. Committee member Assemblyman Frank Bigelow (R-O'Neals) issued the following statement after opposing the bill.

"Neither the federal legislation or AB 2x will address the economics associated with health care coverage in the State of California," Bigelow said.

Until we are certain that the Affordable Care Act will not negatively affect the people we serve, the legislation is premature."

"The legislation before the committee to implement the Affordable Care Act does nothing to decrease costs or increase health care access for the prople of my district," Bigelow said.

"In fact, this bill would increase costs of insurance premiums, causing my constituents and all Californians to pay more for health care."

"State and federal legislation to implement ObamaCare will affect all future generations of Californians.  We must be sure that the oversight process for health care is deliberate, fiscally responsible and beneficial to our state and our future."
