One reason we pay MORE for groceries

On January 25, 2024 around 1 PM, per the Calaveras Sheriff, a theft was reported at

Mar-Val Supermarket in Valley Springs.

Suspect Gary Lenz (37) of Stockton, allegedly attempted to leave without paying for nearly $1000 worth of groceries, an overflowing basket.

When challenged, he abandoned the cart and left the scene. Deputies located him nearby and discovered he had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in San Joaquin County.

At first Lenz gave a false name to authorities, but was arrested without further incident and booked into the Calaveras County Jail for alleged Grand Theft and Providing a false name, plus the outstanding warrant.

How many thieves get away with stealing from local stores, causing prices to go up, and don't get caught?
