Why did Valley Springs close fire station

According to the chief of Calaveras Fire, he has closed the Valley Springs station due to

no staffing.

Seems that since the voters in that area voted against a tax for fire service, they are getting what they deserve.

Ebbetts Pass assessed themselves to pay for sufficient staff to cover fire and paramedics.  Get smart, voters in Calaveras Fire District. You get what you pay for.

Why isn't fire protection covered through the taxes that the county already receives? (There has been an abundance of new sales (homes) and continual short term rentals.) Our supervisors had no problem voting themselves a hefty raise. Every county in California should provide fire and police/sheriff coverage without adding a special sales tax.
