Many feel that Jim De-Mint's reasons for leaving the Senate, actually deserting the voters who elected him to a full term, are varied.
In his final words to the Senate, he stated that he felt he had done all he could do (for the tea party?), but then there is the $1 million salary at the Heritage Foundation.
Others have said they thought he felt that the time of the tea party is fading and he wouldn't have the influence he once had as their spokesperson in the Senate.
