Richard "Dick" Penrod of Murphys

   Richard "Dick" Penrod of Murphys died Saturday, November 8, 2014. He was 73.

   Mr. Penrod was born in Oxnard. He attended Fillmore schools and graduated from Fillmore High School with the class of 1959.

   Whenever he could, he would attend the annual alumni banquets and class reunions to stay connected with his childhood friends and classmates.

   He held the high school pole vault record for many years and made his school and county proud when the Black Angus he raised as a member of the Future Farmers of America Club earned National Grand Champion.

   Mr. Penrod entered the U.S. Air Force with his brother George and three other high school friends in 1963. Mr. Penrod learned a lifelong skill that served him well when he received training in computer programming.

   He used this skill when he worked for General Electric at Los Angeles Airport for many years
before he entered and excelled as a newspaper advertising executive.

   Mr. Penrod worked for the Goleta Valley Today, the Camarillo Daily News and as advertising director for the Las Vegas Review Journal.

   He won several industry awards for excellence in advertising and made lifelong friends with many colleagues.

   Mr. Penrod was a devoted husband to his wife, Pat Penrod, who he married in 1979.  The couple traveled many times to their favorite spot and Mrs. Penrod's hometown of Ipswich, Massachusetts, where Mr. Penrod would play golf, eat lobsters and they would explore the wonders of the New England shore with her family.

   Mr. Penrod was proud of his five daughters and his grandchildren were the joy of his life.  He loved watching their sporting events, encouraging them academically and lending a shoulder when needed.

   Mr. Penrod is survived by his wife Patricia Penrod; daughters Ashley Penrod, Monica Draves, Christa Penrod, Kellie Belvedere and Gigi Pierce; eight grandchildren; brother George Penrod; sister Kathy Penrod McCreary; aunts Edith Hutchins Randall and Melanie LaSalle; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends.

   He was preceded in death by his father George Penrod in 2006 and mother Beverly Hutchins Penrod in 1997.

   A Memorial Service to celebrate Mr. Penrod's life will be conducted at 11 AM on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Mountain Christian Fellowship at 3488 Hwy 4 in Murphys.

    A reception will follow at the fellowship hall.  Memorial donations may be made to the Arc of Amador and Calaveras, c/o Calaveras Arc, 75 Academy Drive in Sutter Creek, CA 95685.

   Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
