Extinct Olympic Winter Sport

   Some may remember an Olympic competition sport called Downhill Speed Skiing, where skiers could reach speeds of over 100 MPH during the run.

   It was banned after a 1992 skier crashed and died at high speed.

Corvettes sink into the earth

   At the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, a gigantic sinkhole opened up beneath the building and swallowed eight vintage Corvettes that were on display there.

West Virginia hit with Coal Slurry Spill

   February 12, 2014:  Just after West Virginia believes it cleaned up a serious chemical spill, not a coal slurry spill of possibly 100,000 gallons is polluting their water.

Shaun White comes in 4th

   Nearly everyone's favorite Snowboarder, Shaun White, came in 4th yesterday in the half-pipe competitions at the Sochi Olympics.

   His board actually come down on the edge of the top of the pipe in his final run. Some are saying its because he cut off his lucky red hair.

Boy Scouts still ban gay leaders

   Although the Boy Scouts of America voted to open their groups to openly gay boys, they are still not allowing any adult gays to be leaders.

 The group just recently awarded the first openly gay scout the rank of Eagle Scout.

Two Koreas hold talks

   Very interesting that North and South Koreas are holding closed-door talks in Panmunjom. No word has been relayed to the press of what its about so far.

Calaveras Supervisor Chair Ponte encourages Disgusting Campaigning at meetings?

  At the February 11, 2014 Board of Supervisors meeting, Chair Ponte, who gets an extra $1000 per month for being chair, encouraged campaigning for election.

   The current Sheriff was allowed to go on and on about something wonderful he thought he had done in the past while he was supposed to be praising others, and Ponte did nothing to stop it. Disgusting!!

State Dinner for France's President Hollande


On the White House website you can watch as the chefs in the kitchen prepare for a fancy State Dinner for France's President Francoise Hollande.

   Very fascinating, if you like cooking for hundreds. Here's one photo of them using a paint sprayer to lightly coat the ganache. The bittersweet chocolate is from Hawaii, of course.

Google behind restoring Moffett Air Field;s "Hangar One"

  A Google affiliate, Planetary Ventures LLC is planning to restore and maintain "Hangar One", restore Hangers 2 and 3 and upgrade the golf course at Moffett Air Field, located just off Hwy 101 in Mountain View.

   They will also create an educational facility and help turn Moffett's airfield into "a viable asset to support government and controlled public and private flight operations," NASA announced.

Obama administration delays healthcare mandate

   For businesses with between 50 and 99 employees, the mandate for registration of the Affordable Care Act has been pushed out for one more year.

    This was seen as a relief for these small businesses, who were struggling with how to proceed in covering their employees with healthcare this year.

   A barbed wire fence in reportedly in the roadway at Camanche Pkwy and Burson Rd in Burson. CHP is en route to the scene.

   Use extra caution if headed that direction.

Northern California girl takes Gold

   Yesterday South Lake Tahoe native Jamie Anderson took Gold in the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

   She won Gold for the Slope Style Snowboarding event.

CalFire hires earlier than usual

   CalFire reports that they have hired their seasonal firefighters early this year and are beginning to
staff Central California fire stations.

   They hired 15 firefighters for the Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit, 14 for Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit and 12 in the Fresno-Kings Unit.
