Turning Over Law-Enforcement Power to Calaveras Humane Society?

On the agenda this coming Tuesday December 10, 2013 is the turning over of authority and law-enforcement power of Animal Services to the Calaveras Humane Society, the most politically motivated and unqualified organization in Calaveras County, in our opinion.

After years of watching this organization's board have totally political policies and motives, we are very concerned about the welfare of the animals vs the political will of the CHS.

We had believed that Brian Moss would remain in control, and that the CHS would only run the facility, not make decisions about the people and the animals under the law.

We wrote to each Supervisor that this was a very bad idea as the board members of the CHS we feel, would not be capable of making fair and impartial decisions, but decisions based on their well-known political whims.

We do not object to the CHS running the facility. That is no problem. It is giving them the powers of the law that concern us. Our Supervisor do not make very wise decisions these days.

They are the ones who want black bears and bobcats hounded for hours, tortured and then killed, unlike our state legislators and fortunately our governor.

If you recall, the CHS stated at that time that they are not interested in what happens to wild animals.

A good and decent humane organization would have been appalled, as was the US Humane Society, who loudly and publicly supported ended hounding wild animals to death. We do not feel that this one is capable of making humane decisions and therefore needs SUPERVISION. (Lots of supervision)

We can see the CHS board sending their employee into the homes of their political enemies using their power of the law that this Board of Supervisors is giving them.  This is scary!!! How much money have they raised towards their $10 million facility, anyway?

Yes, I know this humane society is not like many others. they have been playing up to callaway, who has controlled them for years and years. it isn't that they don't care for animals, but they want power way too much.

Ever since I saw that one old lady stand up and yell at the BOS one day, I knew this group would be nothing but problems if given too much power.

Is there anything in Calaveras County that isn't politically motivated? It figures that even the poor animals would be.

What? This is like turning the Sheriff's department over to the cub scouts--bad idea! (well, on second thought, maybe the sheriff's office is run by cub scouts)

the humane society, which is NO connection to the real Humane Society of the US, propbaby wrote this agenda item themselves, giving themselves power.

I bet Moss is unloading them. They should be under the Sheriff, but he doesn't want them either. It's not the animals, its the board.

The county's bleeding. We may see a lot of privatization. It's going to be called cuts or worse tax increases.
