Editorial:
For weeks the Sentinel has been informing the public about the actions of Darren Spellman
regarding our publications.
The Sentinel is very careful to verify sources and insist on documentation
of any radical comments before formulation an opinion on them.
This is no different. The Sentinel has absolute documented proof that Darren Spellman has made
disparaging comments and HE continues to threaten US with litigation.
So what is the real issue here? Mr. Spellman is simply too thin skinned to be an elected representative of the
good people of Calaveras County.
As a public figure he can and should expect to be questioned, criticized and even ridiculed.
He should not threaten his constituents with litigation and he should not engage in verbal or email battles with the tax payers.
His inability to behave responsibly and maturely should preclude him from being elected again. Darren Spellman is a public figure.
He volunteered for that, and everything that comes with it. If he cannot stand the heat, he needs to get out of the kitchen. In the meantime he needs to stop threatening his constituents with litigation every time his feelings get hurt.

That is the truth. And he was not honest when he told people he "beat" Mr. Crane in court just last year. The truth is Mr. Crane asked to speak with Mr. Spellman outside of the clerks office because the clerk asked them both to leave. He did not threaten Spellman and there was NO proof of any threats made. So he dropped his case and the Cranes IN TURN dropped thier defamation of Characahter case. Mr. Spellman did NOT prevail in court. In fact,HE asked for the case to be dropped. He forced his own constituent into court and then backed out at the last possible minute costing the Cranes thousands of dollars. This is NOT want elected official should be doing. Shame on Mr. Spellman. He needs to grow up and accept everything that comes with being an elected official. IS he going to sue everyone who makes him mad??
I've heard he is always threatening lawsuits whenever someone disagrees with him.
What is wrong with this guy? This isn't how a reputable elected official behaves.
