According to Modesto Police, on March 29, 2015 around 10:21 PM they responded to a 911 call of a shooting at Beyer Park in Northeast Modesto.

When they arrived they found off-duty Ceres Police officer Thomas Miller,
who was providing CPR to 29 year old Jason Moland, who had been shot by Miller.

Apparently Officer Miller was at the park that night with Jason Moland's wife, when they were confronted by her husband.

Miller states that Mr. Moland pointed a gun at Miller and Miller shot him. The gun Moland had turned out to be a pellet gun.

Mr. Moland was taken to a local hospital where he died of his injuries. Apparently the cause of the confrontation was suspicion of an extra-marital relationship between Miller and Molands' wife.

Jason Moland had no criminal history, according to Modesto Police, had an 8 year employment with Winco Foods as a Loss Prevention Officer and had been a Modesto Police Explorer.

Mr. Moland had applied to be a full-time Law Enforcement Officer in Modesto.  Three 3.separate investigations of this shooting are being conducted; Modesto Police are conducting an criminal investigation, Stanislaus District Attorney is conducting an independent review of the incident and the Ceres Police Department's Internal Affairs Unit will be conducting an administrative investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

They are asking if anyone has any information regarding the incident to please call Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636.
