On October 11, 2016 during the morning commute, we witnessed CHP first heading up Hwy 4 at a high rate of speed with lights flashing, apparently after a man who had threatened some
Caltrans worker in Ebbetts Pass.
Then in Angels Camp, while we were pulled over at the intersection of Hwy 4 and 49, three CHP came flying back our way at high rates of speed and turned right on Hwy 49, apparently chasing the same subject, because they had headed the wrong way.
This chase led to a truck driver on Hwy 49 being injured due to the pursued driver trying to escape, caused Hwy 49 to be closed off and on for at least two days and unnecessary fear among drivers trying to get to work.
Not only that, but while we continued to sit at the intersection of Hwy 4 and 49, an Angels Camp Police car we later learned was driven by Chief Todd Fordahl, came flying past us, headed straight on Hwy 4 instead on turning to follow the CHP, who had just turned onto Hwy 49.
Fordahl then crashed into a small car that was trying to cross the intersection on Hwy 49 towards Angels Camp. It was a miracle that no one was killed in that crash. Any disciplinary action here???
The CHP and Angels Police flatly refused to take our witness statement of this crash. Why??? Was the nature of this crime such that SO MANY police cars were necessary, or were they BORED???
And why was it so necessary to be chasing a man down on busy roadways, putting many lives in danger. This was careless and never should have occurred. Something tells us that if a civilian and not a state worker had made a call like that, we might have gotten one, if any police to respond to help us.
Unfortunately, this is Calaveras County, where high levels of education among law enforcement is not the norm! Until the people wake up and realize what is happening; that these cops have FUN chasing down people, while most of their lives on duty are drab, nothing will change.
This was just one of the cases of POOR JUDGMENT in law enforcement in Calaveras County. The public comes last when decisions are made, it seems!!
Angels Camp Police and CHP have continued to release an official report of this dangerous fiasco!!! In fact, Todd Fordahl was so angry that we questioned him about this incident, he has cut off communication with us. And our Angels Camp City Council allowed it.
We assume that means, according to an attorney, that we do not have to pay city utility bills or answer to any of their harassments ever again????

Hey, what's going on. Again, you are so correct about this insane chase. also, they don't help us that much. lots of people were put in danger and hurt because of this bad decision.
I saw from hwy 49 and my comment has disappeared too. They were speeding crazily, and caused all kinds of problems. That poor truc driver.
