On May 1, 2023 the Calaveras Search and Rescue, assisted by Amador County, in locating
a missing man who had been gold-panning on the Mokelumne River.A major rescue plan in the dark, involving a raft, secured ropes and a helicopter saved the man and transported him to the hospital.
The Sheriff's Office reminds people to wear floatation devices when anywhere near rivers, especially when the runoff is high.
