Yosemite's Great Grey Owl habitat lost

Yosemite before the Rim Fire

   The Rim Fire of 2013 destroyed much of Yosemite's Great Grey Owl habitat, along with most of the vole population, which the owl needs to survive (they do not burrow and could not escape the fire).

   Now there is a question of the owl's survival. Most of the snags, mostly dead trees that still stand, were incinerated, leaving them without a place to nest.
