USFS firefighter struck by tree, dies

  UPDATE:  Apparently, according to the USFS he had just completed training two weeks ago and this was his first fire. 

UPDATE:  The USFS firefighter who was killed by a falling tree is from Shingle Springs. His name is Michael Hallenbeck and he was 21 years old.


     Late on August 8, 2015 a USFS firefighter was beginning his work on the new one acre fire named the "Sierra", when a tree fell.  This fire was in the Lake Tahoe area.

    The firefighter was killed and one other was injured in the incident.  An investigation is in progress. The name has not been released.
