Senders burglarized--arrests made

Fairly incompetent burglars apparently
 crashed their escape truck into a fence nearby
    On February 9, 2018 Calaveras Sheriff deputies responded to a commercial alarm at Senders
Ace Hardware on Hwy 26 in Valley Springs.

   A fence had been cut and a broken door was found to the business. A video surveillance tape
showed two suspects wearing dark clothing had stolen a number of chainsaws, clothing and power tools.

    A vehicle was found crashed into a fence near a residence on Hwy 12 in which a number of the stolen were located.
 
   Deputies also found tracks from a nearby residence leading to the Senders store. Joshua Hawkins (39) was found hiding in the attic of the residence and was arrested for several outstanding warrants.

   Jamie Smith (34) of Valley Springs was arrested for allegedly being under the influence of a controlled substance an child endangerment. Child protective services assisted with assessing the living conditions in the home.

   Philip Schmidt (49) of Waterford was also arrested for allegedly possessing methamphetamine and possession of $4500 worth of stolen property.  His bail is $50,000.
