Letter to the Editor: Fire

    Dear Editor:

I am bamboozled and angry about what is going on with fire in my wonderful Sierras. I watched a

report where they bragged about heat sensors from above locate small hotspots and put them out easily while they are small.

Is there a problem here?  If this technology exists, why then, is it not used to spot small fires when they start and dispatch out to extinguish them immediately?

They must believe we are totally stupid as we watch Lake Tahoe's forests burn!  Let's turn the firefighting over to a professional private company instead of a politically motivated government agency.

Everyone I talk to agrees with me about the heat sensor technology, but no one knows what to do about the situation.  Personally, I'm tired of this 'watch it burn' technology.

I wholeheartedly agree. And I think WHY are they letting this happen? Is it because LA wants more water through the tunnels and if we have no watershed to stop it, they will get it?

Well, sinnce McClintock really lives in SC, that could be why he does nothing.

It's not the fault of the little guys on the ground. It's the bigshots in the offices making the decisions

Know what else is wierd; cal fire issued a press release to all residents to leave immediately and NOT to leave their sprinklers going or any water on to try and save their homes. Then I read about a retired firefighter near Lake Tahoe who isn't leaving, has ALL kinds of sprinklers going and hoses, and the fire chief comes to check on him because he won't leave his home and that's ok???
