Chase leads to crash in Valley Springs

    According to the Calaveras Sheriff, on January 18, 2024 around 2 PM an enforcement stop

was attempted on Hwy 12 in Valley Springs due to expired registration.

   The driver refused and evaded deputies by dangerously maneuvering into oncoming traffic with deputies pursuit at speeds up to 65 MPH in the downtown area.

   The pursuit led to Paloma Road, where the driver lost control and crashed the vehicle. Three individuals fled and ran into the field

  Mary Jeffcrum (20) of Mountain Ranch was apprehended quickly.  The other two were caught a few hundred yards from the crash site.

   Gabrial Gurion (25) of West Point and Michael Lyle (32) of Pioneer sustained injuries that required medical attention, were treated and then all three were booked into the Calaveras County Jail.

   Gurion allegedly had an outstanding felony warrant, and for allegedly fleeing from deputies. Lyle had three confirmed felony warrants out of Amador County and faces alleged felony vehicle evasion, possession of a controlled substance and a prohibited firearm.  Jeffcrum was arrented for allegedly resisting, delaying or obstructing a peace officer. 

   Deputies found a semi-automatic handgun that had been discarded by the suspects and a small amount of methampetamine.
