Hwy 88 remains closed--No big rigs

Per Caltrans, Hwy 88 in Amador County remains closed between Pioneer and Buckhorn Ridge Road due to corrosive material being dumped on the roadway by an overturned big rig.

The pavement is being removed and replaced and the highway is expected to reopen on August 12, 2015.

Big rigs must find another way over the passes, but regular vehicles are being detoured from Pioneer to Buckhorn Ridge Road and back onto Hwy 88.

Photo from another site shows a truck -trailer gas truck, with the trailer on its side. I could not make out the placards, but if it were gasoline, it spreads over an area til it finds a sponge like dirt. Diesel on the other hand spreads slowly, sitting on the surface of asphalt. Diesel will dissolve asphalt, making the roadway very soft and sticky.
