CHP report on Charter bus collision

On May 17, 2017 around 1:15 PM Jeffrey Nelson (44) of Sacramento was driving a Charter bus on Hwy 12 east of Double Springs Road, carrying 34 juveniles and four chaperones, according to a CHP report.

Nelson allowed the bus to travel off the north side of the roadway and down a steep embankment, and it came to rest on its wheels at the bottom of the embankment.

Five of the juveniles sustained minor injuries and were transported to Mark Twain Medical Center for treatment.

Hwy 12 was closed off to load the passengers for approximately 30 minutes. The roadway was then opened to one-way traffic until approximately 4:30 PM, at which time it was closed to remove the bus.

Caltrans responded and set up detours until around 6:10 PM when the roadway was reopened to traffic.
