Head-onTraffic Accident in Copperopolis

      June 3, 2013:  CHP reports that David Combs (61) of Copperopolis was traveling west on Hwy 4
west of Dunton Road in a 1986 Ford pickup, below Copperopolis at an approximate speed of 45-50 MPH.

   Maxine Rayford (61) of Sacramento was traveling east on Hwy 4 west of Dunton Road in a 2007 Jaguar at an approximate speed of 55-60 MPH.

    For some unknown reason Rayford lost control of her vehicle and traveled onto the dirt shoulder south of Hwy 4.

   Rayford attempted, but was unable to regain control of her vehicle and crossed into the west lane of Hwy 4.

   Combs attempted to take evasive action but was unable to stop or swerve prior to the front of his pickup colliding with the right rear of Rayford's Jaguar.

   The force of the collision caused Rayford's Jaguar to rotate clockwise and collide with a metal barb wire fence on the north shoulder of Hwy 4.

   the Jaguar came to rest in a dirt and grass field and the pickup came to rest within the west lane of Hwy 4.

   Rayford was transported bby medical personnel to Oak Valley Hospital for assessent and treatment of her injuries.

   Combs remained on scene until contacted by CHP personnel.
