Calaveras needs civilian oversight of Sheriff?

  For many years now, the out-and-out fear of many of the Sheriff Kuntz regime at the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office, has made everyone wonder why there is no oversight; all investigations are "Internal".

     All is takes is a vote of the Board of Supervisors, as Los Angeles recently did. They voted to appoint a "citizen panel" to oversee and monitor the Sheriff's department there.  Why don't we in Calaveras do that? Things would change and turn 180 degrees in the public's favor, you can bet!

Traffic Collision at Spicer Reservoir

   December 10, 2014 at 2:30 PM:  CHP is at the scene of a solo vehicle traffic collision at the boat ramp of Spicer Reservoir off Hwy 4 in Ebbetts Pass.

   Fed Ex is involved, as they called for a tow truck. Perhaps it is a Fed Ex truck. Not sure. No injuries have been reported in the collision.

Traffic Collision in Pioneer

   December 10, 2014 at 2 PM:  A traffic collision occurred between a dark colored Chevy SUV and a small red SUV in front of the Pioneer Elementary School at Hwy 88 and Pioneer Creek Road in Pioneer.

   An ambulance is responding due to reported minor injuries. The roadway is not blocked.

Be cautious: Telephone Scams in area

    UPDATE:  The Sierra Sentinel reported an online Scam that was reported to the Calaveras Sheriff's Office by a woman in Valley Springs on December 4, 2014.

  After so many years of service to Calaveras County, it was an insult to suggest that donuts and coffee would be an appropriate farewell from Calaveras citizens, and we are glad it was cancelled.

   We all need to thank Ms. Callaway for the years she gave to the county and especially to District 3. What will happen to District 3 now is a scary question for everyone, now that a tea partier will be in charge in 2015.

Stolen Cashiers Check in Angels Camp

    The Angels Camp Police Department is looking for a suspect who attempted to pass a stolen cashiers check at Robobank in Angels Camp.

   Bank employees were able to determine that the check was stolen

Caltrans back working on Hwy 4

  We have receive a few complaints about the Caltrans work project on Hwy 4, as they are back out there today, painting white lines on the edges, double yellows in the middle and removing the stuck on temporary markers, one by one.

   Seems like this is just about the longest project we've seen on Hwy 4 in a long time and naturally, everyone wishes they would go somewhere else. Well, tomorrow they won't be there, rain chases them away. So now, it is into next week to try and finish.

Reception at Calaveras Supervisors

  UPDATE:  At 11:18 PM on December 9, 2014, the board clerk sent out an email that the reception previously planned for December 16, 2014 has been cancelled.

The  According to the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, at 8 AM on December 16, 2014  in the Board room a reception will be held for outgoing Supervisors Callaway and Spellman.

     Refreshments will be served prior to the start of the regular business meeting.

Calaveras Sheriff issues weather "concern"

  UPDATE:  Today, Wednesday December 10, 2014, is the "calm" before the storm.

   Per the Calaveras Sheriff, a wet and windy storm
