Dry Meadow prescribed burn notice

Stanislaus National Forest, Summit Ranger District.

The prescribed fire is located northwest of Beardsley Lake and adjacent to Forest Service Roads 5N02 (Beardsley Road), 5N22, and 4N66.  Locations are Township 4N Range 17E Sections 2-5, 8-10 and Township 5N Range 17E Sections 23, 26, 32-35.

Ignition of the Dry Meadow Underburn will commence early November.  The burn days will vary slightly, contingent on weather, burn day status, and available fire suppression resources. All burning is monitored and conducted in accordance with state and county air quality guidelines and closely coordinated with local county air quality control districts.

A total of 1529 acres are to be treated with low-intensity fire, with planned ignition on approximately 150 acres daily.  The underburn is divided into 15 units, ranging in size from 27 to 171 acres.  Number of acres completed may vary with weather and fuel moisture conditions, as well as permissible air quality burn days.

Prescribed burning is an effective cost efficient method of reducing the surface fuel (vegetation) loading. The resource benefit is a decrease in hazardous fuel and re-introducing fire into the ecosystem.

Smoke might be visible along the Highway 108 corridor, FS Roads 5N02, 5N22, and 4N66. There will be smoke in the canyons during the night and early morning. This project is a planned prescribed fire. Please do not report as a wildland fire.
