Per CHP the man killed in this collision was Ryan C. Moody (32) of Jackson.
According to CHP on May 28, 2022 around 5:10 PM a man was reportedly driving on Hwy 49 at Gold Strike Road in San Andreas in a Ford Expedition at a high rate of speed.
Rodney L. Patrick (57) of San Andreas was driving a 2014 Ram on Hwy 49 in the opposite direction when the driver of the Expedition crossed into the oncoming lane, striking the Ram head-on.
The impact was so severe the the Expedition caught fire, causing fatal injuries to the driver. The fire spread to the Ram and Patrick was pinned in .
Multiple citizens attempted to rescue Patrick. CHP officer Butzler arrived and helped free Patrick as the passenger compartment became engulfed in flames.
Patrick was provided life saving medical care until emergency care arrived. He was flown from the scene by air ambulance with major injuries.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs contributed to this collision. CHP is looking for any witnesses and would like to thank the citizens who risked harm to assist the involved parties in the collision.
