Do big developers make good landlords?

We have some unanswered questions. Since Mr. Haley and Castle and Cooke have still not responded to our questions about their shopping center, we will ask the public.

Why do you believe any big developer would allow some tenants in a commercial complex to go months without paying their rent and then serve a different tenant with an eviction notice after being late less than a month?

Does it have something to do with perception?  If the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors believes the shopping center is successful, and that the community is benefitting from these businesses, will they be more likely to vote yes on further development?

Are rents for some allowed, therefore, to slide?

But then when the county turns the new development  down, is there no more reason to allow free rent and therefore the developer starts serving eviction notices?

Is tricking our Board of Supervisors easy?  Is leading them to believe that a commercial project is a great success when in fact many of the businesses are on the verge of collapse smelly to say the least? (phew!)

This is why it is important for the Board to ask the right questions and do their own research.

Copperopolis does NOT need more failing businesses.  Why doesn't the developer cut the rent in half to help all of the small businesses in the shopping center to make a success of their businesses?

That way they could hire people and support the community, or isn't that what the developer really wants?

The Sierra Sentinel promotes and encourages small business...so please shop local.
