US Forest Service releases Bio-Regional Assessment

The Pacidic Soutwest Region of the US Forest Service has released a draft Bio-Regional Assessment of the Sierra Cascade region.

The draft assessment focuses on existing conditions and trends for the entire Sierra Cascade region.

The draft report integrates information from 15 topic papers located on Our Living Assessment, an online Wiki website.

The Assessment addresses ecological, social and economic sustainability of five important themes across the entire bio-region:  Water Quality and Quantity, Fire Resilience, Sustainable Recreation, Ecological Integrity and Community Resilience.

Each of the ten National Forests in the Sierra Cascade region will be able to draw on the Bio-Regional Assessment as a foundation for revising their forest plans.

Each forest will also conduct its own forest-level assessent similar to the Bio-Regional Assessment.

Forest plan revision is already underway on the Inyo, Sequoia and Sierra National Forests.  Plan revision on the remaining National Forests in the Sierra Cascade region will follow.

The Forest Service welcomes your feedback to help improve the draft Bio-Regional Assessment.

The deadline for providing information to be considered in the final report is June 15, 2013.  Feedback can be sent to the following email address:

sn_bioregional_assessment@fs.fed.us.  Further information on the draft Bio-Regional Assessment and providing feedback can be found at:
