Breaking News: Disability Fraud by over 100 1st Responders

UPDATE:  It was just reported that there may be hundreds more fraudulent claims. So far the total amount of money taxpayers paid these frauds is estimated at $400 million,
but it could go over $100 million.
Yesterday, January 7, 2014 New York state announced that over 100 police and firefighters, many of them who had been working on 9/11, were arrested for
fraud, a Federal violation.

They are alleged to have faked either their total disabilities or to have exaggerated their disabilities to keep from working.

SSI investigators followed them and took videos of them after receiving an anonymous tip.

This gives new heart to the three others in Calaveras County, who have gathered evidence (photos, videos, etc) of people here suspected of this crime and sent them to investigators at Social Security.

Sometimes, we have been told, it takes a year or more after these criminals are turned in, to make a good case and arrest these frauds.

Social Security accepts tapes and information from the public anonymously and then they conduct a full investigation, making their own tapes.

So don't give up, these people will be caught. Continue to provide the investigator you are working with, all the information you have.

One person asked us what happens if a person fakes the extent of their disability to law enforcement, as we have been told has occurred at least once of which we are aware?

It turns out that it is the same as providing false testimony to the law.  That will be investigated also, according to our source.

Faking injury or illness in order to get OUR tax money to lay around on is not just criminal in our opinion; its totally SICK!!

Why are so many police, fire and some former guilty of these charges?  Who knows, but don't hesitate to turn them in.

You will be kept anonymous by authorities.  The Sierra Sentinel also will never reveal who you are.  In our eyes, you are courageous HEROES, who should receive medals and rewards for your actions in turning these creeps in.

I think this is treasonous and that they should be punished accordingly.

What kind of people would do a thing like this, especially when our country was in such dire straits?

LOL, that's a good one. Obviously cops and fireman. Well, cops are taught to lie and the ones I know continue to be able to lie throughout their lives, and get away with it. That's why so many don't stay married long.

It was nice to see cops covering their faces in the "perp" walk. I know a lot of crooked cops, and some are right here in Calaveras.

What if I just suspect its phony, can I turn them in?

That's always the thing about cops. You can't trust them. It seems they like the bad cops too. I'll bet they think these guys are wonderful.

Do you think these who commit that kind of fraud come from families who lied and cheated and stole? Is it generational? I think so.

I wonder how many military disabilities are faked. Some people say a lot. I used to think they all get away with this stuff. Now I think maybe not all the time.
