Burton and Brulte have a Party...

John Burton, Democratic Party Chair in California and Jim Brulte, the new Republican Chair, faced off yesterday at a Political Consultants Convention.

They agreed on a couple of things; that independent campaign expenditures are corrupting politics and that young voters are reshaping California's electorate by exchewing parties.(becoming NPP voters)

They went on to disagree on most everything else.  Brulte acknowledged his party's woes as he campaigned to lead Republicans this year and pointed to "failure to recognize changing demographics" and said that Republican elected officials spend all their time "talking to the choir."

With his characteristic bluntness, Burton replied that Republicans have driven to the right and dimishished their persuasiveness among moderates, have "appealed to a smaller hardcore of your party, which helps you in a primary but screws you in a general election."

Speaking as a "former" Republican moderate, I can attest to that statement. Now a proud NPP.
