Letter to the Editor: About Candyrock gun club

   Dear Editor:

During this election cycle I have heard all kinds of talk about what is referred to as the Candyrock gun club bunch and Mr. Oliveira. These people are a small, mouthy,
ugly minority of otherwise good people in Ebbetts Pass.

I hate to tell everyone this, but Mr. Oliveira will have absolutely NO influence on the USFS's decision to close the Candyrock gun club or not.  The USFS alone is to blame!

I read the independent study done by the people at Davis, and that should have closed it immediately; the filth, the wild shooting with no law enforcement or policing, the drinking and lack of consideration for the neighborhood.

Mr. Oliveira may well be opening some new gun clubs near Forest Meadows and Blue Lake Springs; I really can't say for sure, but he is simply using these gun people to get elected.

As you know, Sheriff Kuntz has refused to police this area, and of course that is because some of his deputies are signed up at this gun club, which has over 1500 signed members.

The USFS must do something and they know it. They have procrastinated for years. Is that because of all the death threats I have heard of anyone who dares publicly opposes keeping it open?

I am fully aware of people who have moved away from these Oliveira types out of fear, and I know your website is under constant filthy comments and threats from them.

I am not for or against Oliveira or Callaway, but I do know that something needs to be done about this USFS shooting range. It was created by the USFS and needs to be closed off by them.

Can you even imagine the lead that has washed into our Stanislaus River as a result of the years of shooting there?

It is one thing to allow shooting in some areas of the forest and quite another to allow the abuse of the environment and nearby residents to go on and on.

Ed in Arnold (Are you going to threaten or shoot at my house now?)

I saw a recent study where it showed animal killers are on the demise in the US. That is a positive sign.

I totally agree that the forest service is to blame for this harassment of innocent homeowners. People come to live here in peace, not violence.

Hey there. I'm ex ex ex and 1/2 of Mr. O's. His bloated blowhard personality will show through on the board of supervisors, I can tell you that.

I was down there one time. The boozing and shooting don't set well with me.

The USFS handled the 4 wheelers, moving up away from people. Why can't they handle this the same way. Are they being threatened too?

We were talking about people needing the Maury show for the lie detector test. That guy who wrote a letter to another paper and said that the NRA approved it, LIED! This is NOT an NRA approved shooting range. And the lie deterctor says "THAT WAS A LIE"!!

It is a lie that the NRA approved this shooting range. The NRA based their so called safety study on people shooting in one direction at one target. We all know people shoot in every direction and toward's people's homes - that part the NRA ignored. Lies and more lies.
