June 2, 2013: Michael Douglas today revealed that he blames human papilloma virus (HPV) for his bout of throat cancer. Some were surprised that he made it public.
In recent years, a rising number of head, neck and anal cancers have been tied to HPV. a sesually transmitted virus. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, about 63% of the estimated 11,726 of oropharyngeal cancers can be traced to the virus.
