Per CHP the name of the person who was fatally injured is Steven Sapp of Ripon.
CHP reports that on April 26, 2017 around 5:50 AM a driver (69) from Ripon was driving a 1994 Ford Explorer on Hwy 12 east
of Evans Road in Valley Springs at an unknown speed.
For unknown reasons the driver allowed his vehicle to leave the roadway, traveling off the right shoulder.
Consequently the front end of the Ford collided with an oak tree and the driver did not survive. The name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision.
